2016 3.6R oil filter

I was curious as to when did the oil filter get relocated to the top of the engine? Is this a mod kit or from the factory?

I don't think the 3.6 ever had it on the top, my 2018 3.6 has the filter in the conventional location.

That's the change to the 2.5 Engine.. 3.6 is still on the bottom.

It is one of the two items of envy which 3.6 owners have.

The other being gas mileage.

 

Otherwise, the 2.5i is considered inferior and anemic, and you'll consider it a small sacrifice to squirrel under the car and mess with the hatches and oil drips.

i don't mind the 3.6R filter configuration. Sideways is still better than upside-down like the EJ2x motors were and its not buried up underneath the engine like my MX-5's MZR filter location is to where it drips all over other items. For bottom located filter, the EZ series is about as good as it can get for convenience. .
