davelegacy
I have a 2005 legacy i, 5 spd, non-turbo, 125,000 miles. My CEL recently came on, and I brought it to my local shop that has done a bunch of work on the car. They are telling me that I need a new ECU, which is going to cost at $1,000. Has anyone had this happen? Does this seem right? The car dives fine (CEL off for now). Is that possible with a bad ECU? If I pick up a used one, do I need to re-program it before installing it? 06silvarubiLGT
Why don't you start with telling us what the problem is, what codes are present? do you have driveability issues?.. and we can go from there
davelegacy
I'm not sure what code they read. I've been meaning to get a code reader anyway. Other than a cruise control that seemed very jerky for the past year (prior to CEL going on), there are no driveability issues with the car. Cone_Killer
So the shop told you that you need to replace your ECU without reading and giving you the CEL codes.. dafuk?
I Donated Too sigmafour Posted March 2, 2013 I Donated Too Share Posted March 2, 2013 Dead ECU would be dead though... clearly not. We need that CEL code... Don't think there's one for 'I'm dead, replace me' though. Autozone etc. will read CEL codes for free. Just ask.
davelegacy
Thanks. I'll swing over there later today.
davelegacy
Ok, I missed this on the shop receipt. Code P1443, vent solinoid code. Smoke test evap system and test solinoid. Check wires and ground. ECM not grounding valve. Replace ECM. Does this make sense to anyone?
I Donated Too sigmafour Posted March 2, 2013 I Donated Too Share Posted March 2, 2013 Do you over fill your car or top it off at the gas pump?
davelegacy
Nope. Stop when it clicks off.
surolegga
ECM not grounding valve...but everything else works fine. Hmmm. Second opinion is worth it.

Indiglow
I heard something about a faulty gas cap causing this code. def not replace ECM though, that's out of left field.
