2010 Legacy Gt mod list suggestions

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded from a 2006 LGT to a 2010 LGT. I brought it from my mechanic who brought it from someone down in cali.im kindof at a loss of what I should do to the car. I have been reading and found bunches of info but not sure of what should be top priority.

I am also not to sure about the mods the car currently has I know it has

a racer x charge pipe and intercooler

GFB Bov.

invidia exhaust (not sure which one)

kartboy short shifter

aftermarket coilovers

other than that I dont think it has anything else ( I could be wrong tho)

Im not sure what the previous owner was trying to do but these mods seem all over the place but im trying to get it back on track . I know this is a lot of info but I thought I would reach out to someone with experience before I started buying parts.

I would suggest that your top priority be to make sure that he bolt on parts you have are tuned for or that they are safe to drive on for the time being. Also, work on identifying what is on there. Most of what you listed are in areas that you could see them with little effort. Maybe your mechanic you bought it from would let you put it up on his lift to have a look at the shifter stuff and the downpipe. You can always post pics up on here and we'll help identify parts.

Some other thoughts:

Do you have an accessport? A stage 1 ots tune will change things. Protunes are even better.

Do you have the Invidia downpipe, or just the exhaust? If you do have the DP, is it catted? (it would be right by the turbo if so) Regarding the exhaust, if it has cylindrical mufflers its the N1, if the mufflers are kinda big, its the Q300. Check ebay for pictures of you aren't sure.

Are you happy with the power?

Are you happy with the shifter? There are some other shifter goodies that you may or may not already have on there.

Oh, and welcome! Post up a pic!

It sounds probable that the car has a turbo-back exhaust given the RacerX intercooler. You should probably do a 3rd gear pull and log it. Have a tuner take a quick glance at it if you don't really know what to look out for. Hopefully, the car either came with an AccessPort or it has an open sourced tune on it.

Make sure the BOV is on recirculate and get the tune as others have suggested.

In regards to what's next it kind of depends on what you have to $pend and whether you want to change power, handling or looks. I think the first thing you should do is drive the car as it is for a while (once you get that tune confirmed). Over time you'll find the car's flaws and get an idea of where you want to go (power, handling, looks).

Hey guys thanks for the responses Ill get some pics up tomorrow. I did buy an accessport and im on an OTS 91 octane map, but I believe that I am over boosting after hitting 16 on boost. As for a downpipe I looked at it and I believe that it is stock. I definitely want power, handling and looks to improve thats why I wanna get my list going for the very near future. My town is filled with very fast wrx's and Sti's I just want the leggy to be just as good or better.

Alright here are the pics of the mods that I can see from the previous owner http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/ae0c1627f37d8e4069478d1b7764473c.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/b9e819290b64f22f022a637ff4ee0b3a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/10f1797b1a1a163961334c26d485fc26.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/2ba8d7e60adc4e209687802f915fae77.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/7611e32c20fe1921daf8fbaf5ab37f49.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/eff46ffc6612e877409b8b4274bd081a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161229/1da97b97e4dfa4b68bf42afa80f2f638.jpg

I will try to get a 3rd gear pull tonight and post it

As for next mods I was thinking

1. Maintenance

Engine Oil - Motul or Rotella T6 ?

Gear Oil - Motul, Subaru, or Redline ?

Anything else I should look out for ?

2. Brakes

Brake calipers ? is it necessary to upgrade ?

Brake pads - Hawk HPS or ?

Rotors- Centric premium or DBA

Stainless steel brake lines

3. Power ( since I already have an upgraded intercooler im not sure what supporting mods I could do in order to get the most out of it)

Downpipe - Invidia or nameless

Fuel pump- suggestions

injectors- suggestions

e85 or maybe even Flex fuel

anything else im forgetting ?

4. Handling

not really sure

5. Looks

JDM style lip paint matched

Volks racing Te37 or cosmis

That is the stock downpipe for sure, and that looks like just a kartboy shft knob.

A shifter bushing and/or short shift adapter plate would be found on the passenger's side of the tranny. Check out Perrin's offerings to see what I mean: http://perrinperformance.com/c-1010981-sti-wrx-wrx-2015-2017-shifters.html

FYI the shifter and tranny on the 2015+ WRX is the same as ours, so those parts work.

Well then allow me to enable...

This is one of the best bang for your buck mods: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/perrin-2015-wrx-brass-shifter-bushing-224656.html

It takes a lot of the slop out of the shifter and I think they cost like $25. It attaches to the shift plate, so if you want to get a short shift adapter you'd be in the same area.

That shifter looks like the boomba stick, which is the only real short shifter for our cars, unless the previous owner one-offed a shifter or modded the stock one. Can you get a pick from the side to show the height?

Edit- I wouldn't say the PO was everywhere with the car, but they were probably working out some issues they found and using what was available in the aftermarket, which isn't much. The 91 oct ots map is made for a stock exhaust and intake, that is probably the reason you are building up more boost than you should. I would get it tuned as is and see if you still want more. Keep in mind that our transmissions are a known weak link when you start stepping up power, and there are no upgrade options as of yet.

Something else interesting, if you put your run into Virtual Dyno you are putting down almost 350hp and over 300 lbft of torque. Maybe someone else can verify this, I may be doing something wrong.

If that is the case, I think you may have more going on with your car than just what you see. Could be some aftermarket cams, or an upgraded turbo...

Here is the side of the shifter. Ahh and that makes more sense the PO may have been fixing issues with aftermarket parts.

On a side note my mechanic did pull and rebuild the engine because he brought it with a bent valve but im not sure if he used aftermarket parts or stock. I will ask him tomorrow
