doublechaz Posted February 10, 2018 Share Posted February 10, 2018 My new water pump came with a thin stamped metal gasket. I'm accustomed to using a paper gasket and RTV. Does anyone in the Subaru Tech position have advice on this? Does the metal gasket still use RTV? Should I go with paper and RTV? Skip it and just RTV? Brighton96 Posted February 10, 2018 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Depending on the motor, I think the gaskets are either thin metal or rubber, do not use RTV at all, the only things that should be RTV'd from the factory are the oil pan and oil pump. The waterpump install also specifies a cross/star torque pattern and they do require a specific torque spec Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Setnev Posted February 10, 2018 Share Posted February 10, 2018 No RTV unless you want to be doing it again because it's leaking. You can, like O said, use a little to help hold the gasket in place.
