2.5GTurbo
buy a K&N cleaning kit and follow the instructions... brush off loose dirt, rinse in 1 direction with hose, light pressure, allow to dry in air, oil conservatively to ensure a healthy MAF. PGT
ummm.....no. The AVO filter is not oiled.
Guest *Jedimaster*
ummm.....no. The AVO filter is not oiled. OK, so what do we do with it? I'd assume it's reusable.
2.5GTurbo
My appologies, I was told by a K&N rep that that was the procedure for an AVO filter. He probably wanted to sell me a recharge kit...
BOXRPWR
I cleaned my AVO with a sophisticated setup of a garden hose and my thumb strategically placed partially over the end of the hose to fasciliate aggressive water flow. Oh, and then I dried it with a solar powered setup (sat it in the sun).

JuxtaGT
According to the AVO guys (Paul? Ross?), don't use high pressure water flow, as it may damage the element. Instead, soak in warm water with a little bit of dish soap. Rinse in clean water, let dry, re-install.
jim1969
how often does AVO recommend cleaning it? can you clean it too often and mess it up?
apexjapan
It depends on conditions - visually inspect it every 3000 to 5000 miles, and if it starts looking noticeably dirty on one side, clean it out. It should last at least 3-4 cleanings, but I wouldn't claim it lasting forever (unless we built the filter elements from wire, and even then...). PGT
I ran mine for 12K miles and it wasn't as dirty as I expected it to be. Hosed it off and let it dry in the sun for 30 minutes and it was as good as new.
