Blackwagonman
I have a 2005 LGT limited with 6 disc changer and automatic AC control and I am looking to swap in a 2006 headunit with manual AC, so I can do the double DIN radio upgrade. Will I be able to put a 2006 radio and AC into my 2005 without issue?

Blackwagonman
What prevents this swap?
smokedoutv6
i believe the wiring is completely different, but off the top of my head i cant recall exactly what the differences are. search around, it has been discussed before and it can't be done. Blackwagonman
How about the 2005 2.5i radio with manual AC? Could that be swapped in? All I want is that manual AC so I can do a stock radio adapter. Plus, the automated AC drives me crazy!
NutBucket
Nope. You cannot use manual controls on the cars that came with the auto climate control. It just doesn't work.
Blackwagonman
So basically the only option is the custom option I have seen mentioned where they take apart the headunit to separate the radio and ac? I have seen $1300 total to do all of this plus an eclipse deck. I guess I will have to start saving my pennies ....
NutBucket
Yes. Either that or you can mount your headunit where the cubby is between the AC vents.
RustyShackleford
Not exactly addressing your original desire (an after-mkt head-unit), but worth mentioning ... Or one of the two options listed in this forum which add an aux-in to the factory head-unit (the one that requires soldering and the one that doesn't). Blackwagonman
My goal in all of this is to integrate all of the gear in my car GPS, XM, etc. into one unit. I am looking at the kenwood all in one 1k units, but need a double din to install it. The problem is it will cost me over 2K just to get everything situated and that is crazy! I'd rather put that money down on a new 2009 WRX. I love my car I just wish Subaru wouldn't have made our options so limited!
