Loading the Roof (Canoe)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anyone know the maximum allowable load on the roof of the Legacy?

I recently bought a 16' Canoe which weighs over 70lbs and since I don't have a roof rack, I've been carrying it on the roof using 4 foam stands and a ton of rope.

It's been fine for the handful of times I've carried it but I'd like to know if I'm playing Russian Roulette with my car.

100lbs is the limit on the OE crossbars. A Yakima rack has a limit of 150lbs.

The worst that'll happen is you'll dent the roof skin. It's not very robust, nor is it suitable for carrying any load.

If I were in your shoes, I'd invest in a Yakima (or Thule) rack. Something intended to carry a load, and that can be used for more than just a boat.
