Roof Rack/ Basket Help

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, after doing a bit a research on roof racks/baskets I found this Thule 690XT MOAB Cargo Roof basket and was wondering if this will fit my 1995 Subaru Legacy LS wagon.

But others have also recommended this basket as well. Even with good reviews, I wanted to ask some people who may know more than me just to double check.

If you know any places that sell a good roof rack/ baskets for a decent price please put the link below. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated thank you.

The MOAB has a very sturdy and good universal mounting system. As long as you have cross bars, it will fit. However, I would recommend buying the smaller, cheaper, one. I found that the Thule is just too big for cars and wagons and it more suited to SUVs and trucks.

  • I Donated

I went to the local scrap yard and picked up supplies for mine. $10 and some labor and this is what I came up with. Probably the toughest roof rack a Subaru has ever seen lol

I do need to make some revisions to it though. The 'feet' on it are too small and have caused the rear of my roof of my car to crack on the drivers side. Under normal use it would have probably been fine but I put a lot of weight up there. Tires, full coolers of ice an drinks, 10 gallons of spare fuel, and whatever other random stuff I need when I'm out exploring the desert. I just need to make wider feet for it so the load is spread out more. The cool thing about mine is that my sunroof is still functional! Woo hoo! Its also bolted from the inside of the car (see pictures) so the only way its coming off is if someone cuts it off or breaks in the car and pulls the headliner down to get to the bolts.
