Exhaust question pertaining to headpipes

You guys here are quick and efficient in responding to questions, wish I had more input, but this is my first subaru, in 40 years of driving. Any way, my headpipes are in sad condition and because its a NA I'm not spending 800 bucks for headers. But... in researching parts I have come to notice that the 05 pipes are a simple Y and converter, while 06 seem to be a tri y long tube setup. Now plainly it looks like the extension pipe would need to be changed as well, but do they interchange from year to year??

I'm pretty sure all 05-09 2.5i's have the same exhaust manifold from the heads.

 

Is your manifold really bad or just the useless heat shields ? Most of my heatshields have been removed for many years now.

I am running this on my 2.5. Technically it is impreza (02-07) but it bolted up to my 96 GT.
