What did you do to your 4th gen. Legacy today? Vol - 10

Recommended Posts

I pulled the trigger on the STI Short block, and full seal kit. shout out to Maxcap's build. Oh I also got it for the low cause my dealer price matched online. Still need to get my heads refreshed and I will be set to take it to the shop for install and full Protune on the dyno. doing this all cash so should be ready at the end of April.

I have tons of parts and so on. I am hoping my heads are good. no I have not checked them yet. with 2 kids in daycare and full time job it been hard. plus mowing two big yards and so on.

On the positive side I get a big raise in January, and in march my kids daycare drops a ton. I might scrap my plans and get an S209:lol:. Naw never I love the legacy.

I don't remember having to get those off to get the turbo out, but I just put mine back on and couldn't really get it there with everything around it being fully tight. Tgv, intake manifold, and I think the tgv motors off.

My engine is out of the car so I just found it easier to unbolt it all.

It's not for the turbo pull, but the whole intake manifold, I'm thinking I may as well just pull the whole wiring harness off with it now, I bought the spec b with a blown engine, I'm moving the whole intake manifold and everything over to the long block I have sitting in my garage to swap on. Then drop in the car and go

That makes sense. If it's never been messed with before, unless the Spec B is different, it's got that damn bolt on the bottom side holding the fuel rails to the manifold. I just finished messing with mine about an hour ago and pretty sure I messed up the tgv motors. Wish I'd reassembled it off the car and put it back on as one piece which is how I got it out. Instead of trying to do it one thing at a time.

Yesterday I completed about 75% of my factory tan to black/alcantara (2009) spec B interior swap. For 2009 MY there were 19 swp spec b sold, and there was no SWP/black interior options available otherwise. This blows my mind because the car looks fantastic with this color combo. Pics coming soon.

Found all the pieces to change the oil on the wagon. Going to send in for another blackstone test to be sure the engine is still in good shape.

Sold the first of many items yesterday...Hawk HPS brake pads.

Managed to find a few more "why'd I buy that" things & take pictures. NIB Cosworth high rpm intake valve springs w/data sheet.

Got a new coated GS up pipe installed on the 07, along with the old headers and crosspipe from the 05. Waaaay too much rust on the ones that were there. The old up pipe disintegrated into pieces in my hand as I was removing it. All new gaskets, and a new o2 sensor (rust again). Still need to re-attach the downpipe, but glad it's coming back together.

Stared at a LGT we were working on the other day and contemplated buying another one......I've had my eyes on the new Legacy XT with the 2.4DIT motor but dont know if I can handle the cvt even for a little bit.....they need the 6speed from the 10-12 lgt or wrx 6speed for me to really be interested.

^ I think a lot of us hear you.

I will say the Eyesight and all the safety features in our 2018 Outback 3.6R are pretty nice. But yeah, its a different purpose car then a LGT.

I have been experiencing an oscillating hum from the wheels/tires. My hope was that it was a typical wheel bearing issue or related to tire balancing. The shop diagnosed it as driveshaft. I am currently waiting on an OEM one.

**EDIT** was just researching and came across this part in the sticky on parts:

Dorman 936-955 for 5MT. Also found these guys from a picture someone had posted of their custom drive shaft:

http://www.driveshaftspecialist.com/Import%20html/Subaru.html

Owning this car is like child birth and selective memory. After going through one issue, I forget about it and think about the next thing to mod or cool go fast bit to get.

Agreed 110% I was so excited to see a turbo legacy again, but only to be let down when it was only offered with a cvt... BUT WHYYYYY :(

My understanding is subaru is trying to move completely away from manuals. They can't use their safety suite with it for whatever reason. That was a while back and maybe they've changed their mind since.

I wonder if you could swap an sti manual trans in. I'm sad about no hood scoop. I love the hood scoop.

Things may have changed but a few years back when I had to replace my wagons shaft, the Dorman one was for a Outback, which has a different carrier bearing mount (longer) then a LGT.

I have been worried about this since I bought my car almost 4 years ago. It's always had a slight "bearing" hum. I have replaced a couple of the wheel bearings over the years and thought "good, that must have been it" but the sound remains. Only thing I haven't touched is the driveshaft. All new axles, all new bearings (the two I didn't replace myself were replaced by the PO within a year or so before I bought it). I suspected a driveshaft from the start, but it hasn't gotten worse and my tuning shop didn't mention it either, and they're sticklers for making sure the thing is perfect. One time they wouldn't let my car on their dyno because I had a questionable wheel bearing, my radiator hoses looked old, and the rear diff vent was clogged. If the driveshaft was bad I'm sure they would have said something...

Interior swap is 95%. I just need to do the rear deck and rear seatbelts. Unfortunately, the black rear deck lid does not have the cutout for the HK sub. I’m amazed that you could get a spec b without the HK system. So I’m going to tear it apart and see if I can make it work, if not I’ll find a black lid with the sub opening/grate. I also realized that I do not have a black 3rd brake light housing, so I need to source one of those.

Everything came apart and went together very easily. The interior is in very good shape with only one noticeable blemish.

Does anyone need any tan interior pieces? You pay shipping and it’s yours otherwise most of this has got to go one way or another.

How's the condition of the driver's seat?

How's the condition of the driver's seat?

Car only has 53k miles. Seat is very clean with no tears or anything. The left thigh booster is a little soft and smushed but other than that it’s great.

Hey not sure if this helps but I know the Pennsburg Harry's U Pull It, has a legacy sedan with HK. Its a black cloth interior. I ripped out most of the HK stuff except for the sub / rear deck (I have no use for sedan specific stuff). It might be a hike but thought I'd let you know

Just FYI, I heard back from Driveshaft Specialist Inc in Texas. They have all the components to construct a new drive shaft. The timeline was 24-36 hours. $515 including ground shipping through UPS.

OEM through the shop I am working with is $630 something. I've already started the process of getting an OEM one, so am not moving on the Driveshaft specialist one.

Got the downpipe reconnected, everything wrapped up. Had to jerry-rig the bolts connecting the downpipe to the exhaust, but no bug surprise there.

Figured I'd drive into work this morning, heat everything up and re-torque tonight/tomorrow, but about a mile away from the house, massive exhaust leak. Got it back to the garage, and it looks like it's leaking somewhere in the cross pipe/passenger manifold/up-pipe - it's easy to find when smoke is billowing out. Kind of wondering if I just missed tightening something.

I'll tear it apart again, see what's wrong... with luck, just re-tighten everything. Just glad I didn't get too far away from home.

Posting the finished product here, but more detail on my build thread (link below). Made a custom arm rest for the drivers door to elevate my elbow and add cushioning for greater cruising comfort
Dude... that's most probably gonna be my next modification!

Just finished doing my drivers side front wheel bearing and it was a success. There was an odd noise earlier in the week and got slightly louder. 135k miles and still smooth sailing. I was worried it was transmission but at the same time was ready for a 6 speed swap.

Cleaned the head liner since I still have it out of the car. One can of Tuff Stuff and Bissel wet vac with distilled water to get the dirt out. Head liner dried out already and looks nice. Will repeat the same with other trim pieces while they are out the car.

Jumped in my car the other morning and it was parked with exactly 170k on the odo. Just a hair over 7k on the new motor, due for an oil change and sent in my the first UOA to Blackstone. Very eager to get that back.

Scheduled the turbo replacement for my wagon the second week of November. Need to pickup a parts order at the dealership tomorrow.

2005 Legacy GT, swapped out my stock trans mount with a Group N, fairly straight forward swap with the instructions on here! Love the feel, definitely have some NVH really only from 2-3k rpm range. But i'll see what happens after some miles are on her.

Cheers time for a beer! :)

Do the motor mounts as well! Totally worth it.

Loving all the boost weather here in Washington. Really been enjoying the heck out of it. Taking the wagon to the local Cars and Coffee tomorrow with my buddies in their 1963 Mercury Comet wagon and 2018 CTS V. Should be fun. Never been to one before.
