XM Roady2 installation

After a horribly long wait for a bracket to be released for the Legacy, I have finally found one from Bracketron - model SUB-101-05 that fits the bill and has allowed me to move the Roady2 from the center arm console to the dash.

The hardware included in the Bracketron kit appears to be very well built and in additional to the AMPS compatible mount, it also included a variety of other mounting options such as a cell phone grip in the Mobile Device Docking kit model PH-MINI4. The included accessories in that package allowed me to also mount my iPod.

Over I'm impressed with the quality of the components, especially for the price of $39. The bracket may be a little too thick as it pushes the trim out a tad, but unless you're looking you can't really notice. I have included a close up for that detail.

Still debating on whether I will move to the new Audiovox XM XPRESS on availability, but I may in the meantime pick up the hardwire kit for the Roady2. I have used it in two other installs and it works great and will allow me to hide the power adapter behind the dash as well.

If the XPRESS does infact include a line-in so I can use the FM tranmitter in the XM radio, I'll probably move to that, as all the iPOD FM solutions are very weak.

yeah, at 3.29 a gallon (this morning, just got in and saw up to 3.49), I really should conserve..... I've got a few night pictures that I need my CF card reader for - will post those when I get back to the house. Oh, and ignore the dirty floormats.

Yea, I like that bracket. I may have to pick one up. It provides a cleaner mounting place than a vent adapter (blah) and the stereo cable goes to a more convenient location for using a diff audio source (laptop or mp3). Where'd you buy it?

yea jazzy, after installing your kit and getting a new mp3 player I need to finish the install and get a nice bracket. I did a search here and found this and the vent install.

According to the website best buy is a retailer, however I don't think they would carry all products???

I might stop by a best buy tomorrow and find out.

Sorry, but I would of gone with the Sirius Starbase installed like this:

http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9138&highlight=sirius+cubby

Not only does it look better, but the way you have yours set up, it's too far of a

reach to the buttons and having to reach over the shifter when driving.

I'm also guessing the shifter might block the view of the screen too with your set up. Also, with the way yours is set up, it's likely to get hit by a passenger's knee

or foot if they are tall. Then there's also the reach around you'll need to

do if you want to get into your glovebox.

Sorry for the buzzkill, but the Sirius unit and install seems better.

Tripod -

Yes, that Starbase install is nice - except I subscribe to XM, have a Roady2, and it doesn't fit in the cubby, do NOT have a Sirius subscription, a Starbase, nor the inclination to lose that storage area. This solution gives me a seamless installation that does not involve hacking up the cubby and can be removed in minutes. It also fits my other requirement of being able to mount my iPod in seconds when I feel it necessary.

So... Sorry, but I went with something that EXACTLY fit my requirements and looks damn good in the process.

As per your other comments, I'm 6'2" and I have no problem reaching it. It has no involvement with the shifter, and I have yet to have anyone including my 6'0"+ brother and father hit it. Even with the seat forward for shorter folks, no problems hitting it. The screen is NOT blocked by the shifter as it is several inches higher. And there is no more reach around to access the glove box than before.

Go threadcrap on someone else or do a better install yourself and show then it off. Until then, yes, this is the internet land without rules, but learn some respect. Oh, and no buzzkill, it works perfectly for me and looks like a completely professional install (as far as mounting something like this goes).

To everyone else, I also picked up Jazzy's kit and will hardwire the audio cable and clean up the power line installation using the Roady2 hardwiring kit that includes an extra accessory socket that you just splice inline with the cig lighter. I'll likely post another pic or two once thats done so the power line is gone and looks a little cleaner.

To anyone else interested I purchased mine from GBX Direct - This is exactly what I got - http://www.gbxdirect.com/store/satellite_radio_mount_kit.php?make=Subaru&model=Legacy

jpepew, thanks again for pioneering this.

I went ahead and jumped on the kit you linked to. After installing jazzy's board, doing this was a breeze. Everything went on fine and I have my m:robe mp3 player hooked up.

While it doesn't look 100% stock, it does work MUCH better than keeping the mp3 player in the cup holders.

one question, in your ipod picture, which adapter is that? I'm using the ph-mini that the combo came with, but its a bit bulky for my ipod-mini sized mp3 player.

pics to come later...

I'm currently out of town, but when I get back home, I will pull out the box of parts and list specifically what I used for the iPod mounting. Quickly, i have the neoprene DLO case for my iPod (which I actually quite detest) which has a cell phone belt clip swivel mount. The kit includes a connector that allows you to clip in the swivel mounts. I pull off the Roady, install the clip, and slide the iPod onto that. Again, I'll get some pictures and better details together when I get home. Glad it worked out for you!
