Worthless without pictures but the wife has the camera this weekend. :( (she's at the beach)

Anyhoo, thanks goes out to Scans007 for the how to bit, however, I'll probably be writing my own HID install using factory wires WITHOUT having to drill the cap!!

That's right, you can maintain the factory look of your car and not have the dealership ask any questions!

Either way, shout out to RPM for the awesome product.

Will never have halogens again! :)

Alright so basically here's how it works.

Following scans instructions here:

http://www.pimpmyauto.com/Legacys/H7%20HID%20kit%20install.htm

Following everything down to step 4.

At this point STOP!!!

Now what you need to do is the following:

A.) Disconnect the battery completely (if you haven't already)

B.) Take the battery out. (you'll need a 10mm socket to do so)

Set that aside. What you should be looking at now is a a pretty bare driver side behind the headlight. This is needed to be able to route the cables (and groment) the way the factory wires are.

Before going on, also do the following on the passanger side:

A.) Disconnect the MAF on the air intake

B.) Take the air intake completely out. (Box, filter and hose)

At this point, you'll now have a HUGE open space to work with on the passenger side to be able to see all the wires correctly.

Alright now to make this the clean install as I did, you need to take a look at the following picture:

http://pimpmyauto.com/H7%20HID%20kit%20install_files/image014.jpg

What you need to do is pry that plug off the end of the wires. It's not easy and it's best to have two people working on this; One to hold one screw driver in place while the other tries to pop the other end off.

What that does is it gets rid of the plug on the end (obviously) and now you just have the bare connections to work with.

Now, what we need to do is take a breather, grab a cold one and admire the destruction you've accomplished thus far. :D

After that, time to finish the project.

At this time, both H7 stock bulbs should be taken out and put in approriate containers, now it's time to insert the HID bulbs. Once you do, lock it in place. Now, here's the tricky part. Move the groment on the HID bulb as far down as you can from the headlamp housing. Doing so will allow you to push the HID wires/gromet through where the factory wires are stored. Take a look at how the factory wires are run and you can push the HID wires/gromet through them to have a clean look with just the ends of the HID coming out where the stock wiring would. You'll have to disconnect the Hi-Beam plug in order to pull the wires and push them through. Trust me, it's so amazingly clean looking the dealer isn't even going to notice.

It's worth mentioning that the wires on the HID bulb may look stressed (IE tension) but they'll be fine so no worries about that. :)

Do the same on the other side (passenger) and now we're ready to mount the ballast.

(Tonight (once the wife gets back) i'll update this with pictures of where I mounted my ballasts.)

For the driver side, I mounted the ballast below and on top of the windshield washer fluid tank. (Driver side) MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE AREA OF WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO MOUNT THE BALLAST THROUGHLY! I used Bam-Off which is basically a 409 type cleaner. Just grab some paper towels, clean it good and let it sit and dry for a few mins.

Now grab the ballast, apply the double side tape to the back and put it in place.

Next, mounting the ballast on the passenger side. Again, CLEAN THE AREA WELL! :D I put mine right next to the ground wire and screw to the frame of the car. To ensure that the ballast doesn't conduct, put electrical tape on the end of the ballast closet to the screw (if that's where you mount) just to make sure.

After that, we're finally ready to use these wires:

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/8277/untitled23dc.jpg

Remember the factory stock power plug that we pryed off? Well, to make the nice clean connection, all you need to do is attach these to those (depending on how you routed your cables). They just snap right in!! From here, grab some electrcal tape and cover them up to make them look clean and also avoid any weather issues.

Now we're on the home stretch, buy now you should have:

- HID Bulb in, wires run through factory position

- Stock plug taken off and positive and negative harness exposed to plug the Xenon kit into

- Ballasts mounted

So... hook up the ballast connections to the HID Bulb connections at this time.

Reconnect the positive end of the battery. Flip the car on and test out the lights!! :D :D

They should work just fine.

Now just reverse the instructions above. Put the battery back in, put the air intake back in, attach the MAF, put the dust covers back on over the HID bulbs (yes, they look slick not being drilled!! :D ), put the air duct back on and the washer tube back in place.

Turn on your car, let it run for about 5 mins (to re-juice the battery) flip on the lights and enjoy!

If this was confusing at all, let me know and I can tweak, once I get pictures tonight hopefully that'll help too! :D

Enjoy guys!

Awesome writeup, Can I stick it on the end of my install doc? So peeps can have options!

Also, the best way if you want it clean clean, take the bumper off and screw the balast to the frame hidden away from everything, and while the bumpers off...Clear the headlights and install the halo's..........;)

(if not the pass side balast will fit under the headlight, the dirivers side is much harder to find a spot.....

Pixx man....PIXX.......=)

Confused about where to reattach the stock connector that we pry off. Is this right?

  1. Pry off stock bulb connector.
  2. Pull stock wires through the grommet.
  3. Re-Attach the connector.
  4. Connect this connector to Ballast +/- wires
  5. Install HID bulb
  6. Feed wires from HID bulb through grommet
  7. Attach HID bulb wires to Ballast Light out.

As promised, here's some pics, light quality is piss poor (i know, it's dark and in the garage) so hopefully tomorrow I'll get some better shots in the daylight.

I'm also uploading a file to rapidshare that is a video of the lights turning on and their beam pattern.

Again, the bulbs are @ 5k and are the Xtec kit. :)

So from left to right.....

Pic 1 Wires of the driver side ballast on top of the window washer fluid tank | Pic 2 is un-drilled dust/weather cap and wiring. | Pic 3 is the wiring around the washer tube, zip tied and neat and tidy | Pic 4 is where I mounted the passenger side ballast near the grounding screw + wire (as I mentioned in previous posts) | Pic 5 again is showing the wiring and un-drilled cap on the drivers side.

*EDIT*

here's the video I promised of the headlamps. :D Enjoy guys.

To download just click the "free" button, wait like 20-30 seconds, and then input the authorize code and download.

Video is about 45MB and basically shows off the the color temp of the bulbs.

So are HID conversions actually Legal in the states?

I know here you can't legally do them as most people botch up the cutoffs and end up with something horribly glary

No they aren't, unless they have the self leveling ability which non do......

And PDX - PM me, I'll host the Light video for ya.
