Why is so hard to find liftgate struts for the outback?

Recommended Posts

Mi dad has a 2010 outback, and the liftgate struts are done, they can´t even hold the door in open position. But i´ve tried to find some replacement, and there is almost none (btw i´m not in the US, so i have a few options to buy).

I´ve searched in Amazon, and there is none, all unavailable for the moment. Rockauto neither, they have only for the bonnet.

It seems to be those struts really bad, because i´ve talked to a seller here, and he told me that it´s frecuent to some people search for those. I have a 1995 legacy station wagon with original struts, and they still work just fine.

Is there some other model compatible with the outback? (besides the legacy of same years) So i can try to find an alternative.

Search for 'gas spring' or 'gas strut' on the net, sometimes it's easier to find generic ones and fit them than to find oem.

Also check if you can use some of the fitting parts for the original ones to solve that part. Slightly stronger ones is usually less of a problem than weak ones.

I'm not sure about customs fees and import restrictions for Chile so you have to check that. Also look on other similar cars and see if there are ones that can be used.

What about ebay? I don't know if these will fit your dad's outback, they're for a 2010 USDM outback. One is for the left side, one for the right side, maybe they'll only charge once for shipping if you buy both. But again, I don't know if they will fit.

USDM 2010-2014 Outback Hatch Lift Support

63269AJ10D - Right side. https://parts.subaru.com/p/49502219/63269AJ10D.html

63269AJ11D - Left side. https://parts.subaru.com/p/49503275/63269AJ11D.html

If you search for the part numbers on Amazon, they are there, but someone goofed and labeled it as "mudguard assembly"

You can find them on eBay as well as apex mentioned.

All assuming the USDM supports work for your hatch down in Chile.

Good luck!
