Tuning up of ECU

Hello,

Recently, I've tested my engine and by the looks of it - it's healthy as a rebuilt 100k miles EJ255 can be

I've bought it tuned at 250 whp with the following mods

  • King Racing bearings
  • Cosworth Pistons, Pins, Clips, and Rings
  • ARP studs
  • TMIC AVO
  • GrimmSpeed EBCS
  • Custom cat-less UP/DP, stock catback
  • Mishimoto radiator
  • VF34

Now, with me being me, I'm aiming to 300 whp and supposedly the car can support the power, with the exception of the 5EAT. From what I've researched, a modded VB can prolong tranny's live, but my only option is buying a Trans Go kit, and getting a AT specialist to do my VB (I live in Europe). The only downside is cost, as I have to pay taxes and specialists' labor - $700 minimum.

I've also found a local tuner, who ensured me he can retune the ECU and the TCU in order to minimize slippage and prolong 5EATs life, for around $350

The car is at 100k miles, maintenance wise only thing left to change is ATF. What would be the forum's suggestion - should I get the VB mod, retune ECU and TCU, or just let it be as it is...? :)

From what I've read about XRT tuning, with my local tuner I'll get everything they do, plus updated custom tune - as I am willing to change catback, car's too quiet for me. :D

No your local guy won’t. XTR updates the calculated torque tables. He figured it out based on Throttle Happy’s finding a while back and didn’t bother sharing back with the community. You tuner won’t even have these in his definition files.

By the way, his “5EAT tunes” aren’t great. He takes a nice 3D table and turned it into a 2D one. There is a better way.

The information is out there on the romraider forums.

I'm not a professional tuner but even I updated my own calculated torque tables on my 5th gen.

Also if a professional tuner can't follow the detailed steps on creating your own definitions then they aren't much of a tuner (this info is also found in the romraider forum).

I would get the tune first, see how the shifts feel.

If you can sense any issues with shifting then go for the VB upgrade.

Just did the retune, together with the remapping of accelerator pedal. Now the car behaves much like my father's Volvo XC60 T6 with Polestar power package - aggressive starting throttle from 0, much more responsive when accelerating with 20-30% pedal from 50, 60 mph. That combined with much firmer shifts while on power makes me a happy LGT owner. :) Will post a video, but there are lots of similar results on youtube.

Edit: no substantial power changes, decided to stay at current level, however, due to changes above the overall feel is of a more responsive and fun car.

That is not correct in reference to TH. You seem to have it in for me following every post reference to me (XRT) and posting incorrect stuff.
