SCHM1AN
I'm looking to buy sways for my car and just thought that since the 05-09 Legacy and the 08-12 WRX/STIs share the same chassis, what is preventing me from using the WRX/STI FSB/RSBs? I checked a few different swaybar vendors (Whiteline, Rallitek, Perrin) and all of them have different part numbers for the respective vehicles. Can anyone lend some insight on this? Thanks
ChemicalWaste
Me too.
scoobyscoodle
The front 08+ wrx/sti bars will bolt right up, the rears will not. The rear bar must be 05-09 lgt fitment.
jamal
They don't share the same chassis, it's close though. The front 08-10 WRX bar fits the LGT. The 2011+ WRX and STi front bar DOES NOT fit, because those cars have a wider track. If you have a non-turbo Legacy the WRX bar doesn't fit either because of the exhaust manifold. The rear bar needs to be 05-09 Legacy specific. Reinforcement brackets for the mounts are a good idea too.
scoobyscoodle
I forgot about the 11+ track width, good call.
SCHM1AN
Has anybody installed the STI FSB? I'd like to know how big of a performance gain you'll get. I'm assuming not much, since more people haven't done it already
Whatisit
the sti has been a wide track from 08 onwards, so id assume that it wont fit.
ChemicalWaste
So who makes a decent size rear sway anymore?
SCHM1AN
Whiteline and AVO make a 20mm RSB. Those are the biggest rears I could find
ChemicalWaste
Yeah, That's about the biggest I can find anymore, too. I had a cart saved on infamous for the Hotchkis set but apparently so did a few others and they snaked my bagel. I'm hoping they decide to do another run. jamal
If 30-40 people wanted to get together for a group buy and wait a couple months, Whiteline would probably be willing to produce a larger rear bar. 22mm would be a good size. Next time I talk to them I will bring it up.
SCHM1AN
Do it. Do it NOW! But seriously if you could get on that before too long, I will buy one
scoobyscoodle
Cusco makes a 21mm. Other than that, options are pretty limited. A bigger WL bar would be nice.
ChemicalWaste
I was liking the sound of 23-24 mm myself but i haven't really done my homework on sizes and all that jazz so i guess that's something else to read up on soon.
turbodog
I have a 22mm aftermarket front bar on my spec.b that was originally on a '02 wrx. No bends in the middle but fits fine. Marginally stiffer than stock.
ChemicalWaste
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188618 The kit i originally wanted. I'll wait to see what whiteline says though
jamal
if they are hollow, a 22mm bar will be around the same or softer than the existing 20mm solid whiteline bar. Funny how that got started a few days after I mention a possible WL group buy.
ChemicalWaste
That's why i'm waiting to hear anything about whiteline if that might happen soon. I thought the same thing about that starting up soon after the mention of a whiteline group buy. See what you can find out.
ChemicalWaste
Gotta bump this because i put myself in the group buy for the other set. Any clue when you might here anything Jamal?
SCHM1AN
I've also listed myself in the other GB

For a custom order the minimum is 100 but since it is something that already exists they might be able to do something. Also I am bordering on non-vendor vendoring so it might have to happen elsewhere.

whitetiger
there is always the 25mm tribecca front bar.
whitrzac
Sway bars are not rocket science.... IDK why no one makes a larger rear bar anymore:spin: Perrin would not make the bar under any circumstances. I offered a GB of 25+ people and they still said no. I paid $270 for a used perrin 25mm bar a few weeks ago:mad:
whitetiger
most people dont have enough tire to use that rear bar. it would be better if someone made a 30mm or larger bar for the front.
