Fog light mod

Recommended Posts

I did this mod on my 2014. I know 2013 is the same. Other than that I am not sure. This mod will allow you to turn your fog lights on whenever you want not just when the low beams are on. This does work with the key out so don't forget to turn them off.

tools needed

Phillips screwdriver

pliers

wire terminal crimpers

heat source to heat shrink

parts needed

2 red t-taps (must be red, blues will not work)

2 red male spade terminals with heat shrink

1 1n4001 diode

First step is to assemble the diode. Put a spade terminal at each end of the diode so that the heat shrink will cover all the exposed wire on it. Crimp and heat shrink them. You should end up with this

Next under the drivers side dash there is a kick panel that needs to be removed. First step to that is to take 3 clips that are circled out.

Next you need to unsnap the OBD2 port. Just squeeze the ends and it should come out.

You should be able to move that panel out of the way now. Next to the steering column you should see the body control module. the 2 connectors closest to the firewall are the 2 that you want

The red arrowed connector should have a Violet/Yellow wire and the blue connector should have an all white wire that you want to attach the t-taps to.

Now you just have to attach the diode to the 2 t-taps. Make sure the white stripe on the diode is toward the white wire.

That's it. Now put your OBD2 port back in the kick panel and reinstall the kick panel. Here is the end result

I tried the mod on my '10 LGT as described. When I connected the negative terminal on the battery, the fog lights came on, but I couldn't get them to turn off. Fog light switch on the dash had no effect. Key was off.

Had to remove the diode ... back to square one.

Do you control your fog lights from the turn signal stalk?

My fog light switch is on the dash panel, beside the knob that adjusts the L/R rear view door mirrors.

Not sure if the switch type/location is determined by factory installed vs. port installed fog lights.

Was excited, then you go and ruin it for me

Oh well, us dash button people will have to keep trying.

looking at the wiring of a 2010 it was exactly the same. Biggest thing is to make sure you put the diode in the correct direction.

Diode was put in correct direction. The diagram you looked at referred to the turn signal (combination switch) light control switch. Haven't been able to located a diagram for the dash mounted fog switch. I think the dash mounted fog light switch may have a different colored wire than the white wire illustrated in the diagram you saw.

Finally, the mod I've been looking for. Hopefully the wiring is consistent from the '14 to '15 MYs. One question, is there no power source in that bundle to tap that isn't always powered even when the engine's off?

I know this thread is ancient, but I just thought of something. Bear with me, this is just a brain dump lol.

I'm pretty sure the fogs are ground-switched, so that rules out running switched +12v through the diode to the white wire.

What if I put a relay between the YV wire and diode and use switched +12v from the fuse box to trigger the relay?

This is the pinout I'm looking at...
