omnicron
I want to read CEL and the ROM on my 3rd gen 2004 5MT Limited Wagon Legacy but I get error messages when I try to get EcuFlash to read the ECU after I select 2004 Legacy/Baja option. I also can not check the CEL with Learning View. What tools do I use to do this on this year? I understand it might be a lot like the DBW Baja setup. Is there some sort of test connector on these years that must be connected/disconnected? Thanks in advance!

jproy69
My dad has a forester and if he wanted to run the codes, he had to start the engine, so basically plug the reader, start the car, and pray!

Don't know if it would be the same on a Subaru, but on some cars if you have a after market radio it can throw off the obd2 because some cars can scan the radio through the radio. If this is the case then the feed from the radio to the obd2 can be cut. Cheers
rougeben83
look under your hood, I don't think yours is DBW.
omnicron
It is DBW. BH9EY7J is the Chassis code numbers. The 2004 Wagon Limited Edition is DBW. There is no cable to the throttle body. Very obvious. Looks to be a rare model I guess. Take a look at the picture.
omnicron
Ok for all the people that say it can not be DBW. I have taken pictures of the throttle setup..... If this is not DBW, what is it? 2004 N/A Legacy Wagon 35th Anv. Edition. I have determined that it might be related to a test connector I need to connect that is located somewhere in the car. Not sure where since the best I can relate to is N/A DBW Imprezas. I think there also might be an issue with the serial speed... I think it should be set to 4800 bits per second. When the car is back here I will test this and report since NO one seems to know.
omnicron
Some success today. I had to lower the bit rate to 4800 and I was able to ID the ECU. The ECU is 37220A7206 I still can not dump the ECU rom. I need to figure out if it needs some sort of jumper and where it goes. I must be the only one trying this with this car. omnicron
Revive this old thread! So... This ECU 37220A7206 CAN BE TUNED with Opensource tools like Ecuflash or Romraider. I just had the EJ25 swapped for a EJ20 JDM engine at Ubersport here in Orange, CA. Swap went very easily. Biggest complication was the single port to dual port header issue the USDM has to the JDM engine. Nothing a little tig welder couldn't fix. Without the tune it is AFR is about 20% off. Had all the work done at Ubsport in about in one day. The old engine had 180k miles and still ran but needed head gaskets and who knows what else... The total for the JDM EJ20 engine, labor plus headers was under what a rebuild would have been by about $1000 and I didn't have to wait for machine shops! I guess this ECU is also used in some 04 Legacy GTs also but not sure about any other cars. BTW the test plugs are two green plugs under the drivers side near the center counsel. Kinda hidden but not impossible. You must connect those two to read the rom or reflash the ECU. The engine sounds and looks great. Very OEM look to it and is so much smoother than the EJ25 (maybe due to the age?). I would suggest this to anyone who needs a rebuild at a cheaper cost and can tune the car. I would not do it with out tuning.
Matty2Hotty
Nice, you wanna rent out your Tactrix cable so I can get my rom file
omnicron
It has to be dbw and from I can are it only works on this specific ecu Id. Is you 99 ecu supported? Pre 05 noncambus might support generic vagcom cables with an older version of ecuflash. Very cheap this way.
omnicron
Double Revive.. New task! I have another 04 LGT NOT DBW... Read: this one is not drive by wire. ECU CODE: 3712005006 Now this car has the test mode green connectors AND the FLASH BLOCK Connector. Rom Raider forum says they are not supported. http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13991 Although they are not, It appears to be a flashable ECU like some of the older WRX models. I do not see why it should not be supported if someone can figure out how. I am doing some research on how ECUs are supported in ECUFLASH and if I can add this one some how. Any one have some ideas?
