Code's Build 2009-present

Recommended Posts

I should've done this a long time ago....

I purchased my car new on July23,2009. It is my 4th Subaru after owning a 1993 Legacy LSi in college, then a 2004 WRX, and a 2005 LGT 5MT

What it was:

When the 5th Gen LGT debuted in 2009 I immediately knew that it wasn't for me. At the time I was driving a 2005 LGT 5MT with a bunch of parts in my garage waiting to be installed. The car had 140k on it and was cursed. I knew I wanted to stay in a 4th gen LGT so I started my search for a SWP 2009 Spec B. This search was futile as I later found out that there were only 19 produced for MY2009 so I settled for the next-best alternative, a SWP LGT 5MT Limited w/o NAV. I took delivery on 7/23 with 127mi on the odo. She was (a) perfect (place to start).

Where it is:

The modifications began almost immediately. Having owned a 2005, I had a lot of carry-over parts from that car. So with barely 300 miles on the clock, she went under the knife for headlight clearing, suspension work, and some other minor mods. At 1000mi I had her tuned to Stage 2 by Infamous using Opensource. At 4k miles I installed the FMIC and had Infamous adjust the tune. The parts piled up, changes were made. Suspension bushings, minor visual tweaks, wheels, tires, brakes, pretty standard forum fodder. I was hooked.

All of the parts were selected to be future-proof. I wanted every decision allow the platform to accomodate the "next step". I knew I had a problem, I didnt try to hide it.

There was no more major work done to the car for about 4 -ish years. Then in 2015 I decided it was time to take the plunge and make more power. I bought a used AVO380, holy headers, fueling, intake, tgv delete, clutch, the whole shebang. I was going Stage 3 and again I would have an Opensource etune through Cryo. The car made good power and pulled hard to 6500rpm. I was happy.

The stage 3 pump-gas setup was fun for a while but I regularly found myself day-dreaming about e85 and the ultra-quick spool that you get from aggressive timing and boost. I knew that there was no way that I couldnt have that experience so I began the long process of building the car to handle that type of power.

in 2017 the 3rd-gear synchro began to go on the 5MT. It was time for an upgrade. I purchased a 2011 STI 6MT and R180, dccdpro, and all the fun stuff that goes along with a swap. Fire the money cannon, here we go.

After the transmission swap there was nothing to do but wait. Cobb was working on their Flex Fuel kit for the 08-14 WRX and there was a push by some of our forum-members to have them develop it for the LGT platform. Amazingly Cobb did this, which is crazy because there are like 10 people in the country that actually bought in to LGT Flex Fuel. Cobb released the product in early 2019 and I was in it.

Prior to the FF tune I did a few more minor upgrades to ensure that there were no (less) weak links in my setup. This included an air-pump delete, iWire fuel-pump wiring upgrade, cobb LF BPV, IAG motor mounts, and some new plugs and coils.

The car was tuned on 4/26/2019 by JR on the dyno at Six Star Performance (formerly Moore Performance) in Pittsburgh, PA. It made 375hp/425tq on e85 and 330hp/360tq on 93oct. It currently has just over 54K miles.

Great build! FYI I was one of the test platforms for the flex fuel kit. I literally called them almost every week lol. I offered to pay for the kit, in the end I payed for it upfront and worked with their R&D team. After it was all said and done they refunded me. COBB is a great company and has excellent customer service!

Box- fenders are rolled and pulled. The fronts were harder to fit than the rears. In the rear I have whiteline adjustable camber and toe arms. I also had to grind some of the metal where the trim piece meets the quarter panel at the lower/front edge of the fender. The rear will still rub a little bit if I have passengers in back and hit a big bump.

I am eternally grateful for your efforts. FF is so easy and the e is soooooo much better for performance. I never run gas.

Thanks. I love the exhaust sound with the Elh and spt catback. It’s way quieter than my previous AutoSpeed cbe w/ additional borla xr1 Welded in. From the cabin i hear as much intake as i do exhaust.

Gave her a quick wash on Sunday. The car didn’t see snow/salt this winter so it was just a gentle spring cleaning. Hopefully I can find some time to get the ceramic on soon. The Last Soap is a fantastic wash and I’m excited to try the The Last Coat clay mitt/ceramic/AMP(shine enhancer)

Car rolled over 55k miles yesterday. It’s time for new tires too. I will be replacing the Dunlops 245/40/18 with Michelin pilot super sport or sport 4s in 245/35/18. These new tires will be slightly wider, an inch shorter, and 6lbs lighter! That’s a win for sure. It should eliminate the slight rubbing I get at full compression.

Its been a while since I updated this thread.

Full SPEC B front and rear control arms with all new whiteline bushings

2015+ STI steering rack and knuckle w/ whiteline bushings

Updated to a new kta124 setup, old stuff was crusty and rusted to hell

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s 235/40/18

These updates provided a fair amount of weight reduction at each corner. Each tire is 6lb lighter than my old ones, which is amazing, in addition to the aluminum bits. It has made the car feel so much better under all conditions. No more rubbing, less road noise, waaaay smother ride, quicker acceleration and better braking, its everywhere.

The steering rack is great and very noticeable. I don't think I would do the knuckle if again, i may actually remove this and replace with OEM. There is A LOT of feedback when you remove the damper.
