If your going to be taken the dash apart a lot in the future I'd tap into the dash harness but if this is the only time your going into the shifter area or the dash tap into the cig side. I've had my center part of my dash apart more times then most to install and run various items in the car, thats why personally I'd tap into the dash wiring side.
