nvr-enuf
Members, I am in need of some advice. My wifes 2002 subaru outback sedan makes a dead, clunking sound when driving over bumps. It sounds like a bad shock / strut but I also had this sound on a Ford and the cause was due to sway bar bushings. The car has 110K on it, could it be a bad strut or do the sway bar links wear out. I had it on the lift tonight and looked at the links, I could not visually see any issues. Any suggestions would be appreciated. BDII
Usually, harder bushings/old bushings clunk on turns. Struts clunk on bumps. Need forum help? Private Message legGTLT
bpc8bpc8
I would try replacing the sway bar links before the struts -- always try the cheapest fix first. I had a similar problem on a ford taurus with bad sway bar links (bushings) and it would clunk over any bumps.
yioryo
I say sway bar bushings. Had the same problem on my A4, the noise was horrible.
nvr-enuf
Any suggestions where I can buy either rubber or poly front sway bar bushings as well as links. I called the local dealer and as usual, OUCH. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Scott
