nicd
Ok since I was not really able to find a satisfactory solution to this I will enrole the help of others. At issue the overheating of the transmission in manual mode shift. It is an issue that has been documented with the Subarus, past and present-SVX and the Twin Turbo auotmatics. In fact blitz make a unit for the car BH model: Arc also makes one, not only do they make one but there is also a kit available for the Australian car, in fact they will not install a hitch for you unless you set one up. Here is the accompanying text : Important Note: Oil Cooler is required to be fitted to automatic models, in conjunction with fitting a towing system to your Liberty or Outback. Price: $139.54 Price Fitted: $185.74 And it does fit  I contacted SOA and as usual they insisted we do not need such a thing. The only reason I could see for this is during some of our cold winters it could be unwanted extra cooling. Other than that ?? I have located 2 probable sources for a good cooler for our application: 1: B&M Racing which is an interesting product with a viscosity by-pass valve perhaps helpfull in the winter: http://www.bmracing.com/products/acc_tranCoolers/superCooler.html 2: Perma-cool which also supplies a number of performance part vendors: http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page13.html I am going to try and measure using the pictures supplied to us bu John to see if we can use the same mounting points as the original unit. If any one has experiance with htis type of stuff or knows details that we should watch out for , please feel free to post. Thanks to all for sharing what you may know on this subject. nicd
Well I got the info back from Australia and here is what they told me: The oil cooler for MY04-MY05 Liberty GT 5 Speed AT is part # SA1119 and costs $ 252.00 AUD including Tax.(179.680 USD) Please forward Credit card and delivery address details so we can process your order. Please note that we cannot deliver or ship parts overseas for insurance reasons. (this means that you have to have UPS or Fedex do an actual pick-up). PS if anyone wants the contact please e-mail me. Well I decided to pass up on this and have gone ahead and purchased the B&M unit 70264 the sizing on the peice is 6 in. x 11 in. x 1 1/2 in which half the size of the stock peice but since it is not built on the same use of fin and tube process i beleive it will be as if not more efficient. Also at 11 in ches wide it take op only half the size of the Subaru one while also matching up to the appropriate install holes. This is the part details: B&M's SuperCooler low pressure drop coolers reduce the risk of lube system failure. A controlled amount of ATF is allowed to bypass the stacked plate core, passing through a self-regulating orifice which monitors resistance to flow. Controlled by viscosity, the thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two open bypass openings in the stacked plate core. As operating temperatures increase, more of the ATF flow is directed through the core. Resulting in a highly efficient cooling technology that combines improved protection against lube system failure with the required levels of optimal heat transfer. Which will be very helpfull in not over cooling the tranny oil in winter. I will be using braided steel lines and also making my own connectors. NB anyone in the colder areas of the nation please do not forget to install it in series with the tank cooler. This will actually help warm the fluid a little in winter before it gets to the aux cooler and thus avoid nasty transmission failures. kevinkingofimports.com
We are looking into importing the OEM parts from AU for Legacy owners. Do not believe the insurance hype! The biggest factor is shipping cost. Subie.tv

typeSpeed
Doing a search on this site I found that the STI comes with: "a transmission oil cooler with pump built-in, and segregated oil galleys to reduce the potential of chips to be spread around as most notable upgrades over the basic 5MT design" Do we need a pump as well or just an oil cooler kit?
