westu37
Hey all, Did some searching and just want to confirm..... 08+ WRX front suspension is pretty much the same as LGT 05+ ? I'm looking to get just front springs for the Bilsteins I just put on my OBXT. I'm looking for used for the budget at the moment, and was hoping to troll the classifieds in NASIOC if I can verify this.... Thanks. Wes.
apexjapan
The front suspension is basically the same, but that doesn't mean the strut/spring setup is going to be the same. I don't see this as being a good idea in general, springs aren't that expensive new, and the cost of the alignment you will most certainly need after the install would kill any budget anyways. AZP Installs
They arent the same unfortunately. They are similar but not 100% -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Heedz
Not the same although the set up is almost identical plus the rates are not meant for our chassis/weight distribution. It's like how legacy springs lower OBs and OB stuff lifts our cars, except the fact its not gonna fit somehow.
fahr_side
The springs will fit but you might not get the ride height or stance you're looking for. Even if the rates work the lengths might not suit. Oh, whatever you do don't use OEM '08 WRX springs. They're as soft as over-cooked noodles. Impatient
I know you are a respected vendor, with lots of valuable advice, but I don't see you or anyone pitching the perfect solution for us Outback owners...shy of the JDM Bilstein BTS5056...which who knows how perfect it really is, and at a "Tiffany's price.. You can count the people who have them installed on 1 hand...and still have one finger to pick your nose with. His doesn't look that slammed, and straight from the horse's mouth (FWIW) Bilstein told me their shocks don't wear prematurely because of lowering springs. So honest advice is good, conflicting advice is confusing, but give Westu some credit for trying to figure something out when there are so few alternatives for the Outback. (OK, so Tein is kind of dogged around here...doesn't really look like S-Techs though, does it?) If, on the other hand, you have a good solution for the Outback, I'm all ears. 1" plus spacers don't sound "good" to me....nor do I want as low as Westu does, but to each his own. Anyway, peace. Sorry about that, I missed the bilsteins part in the original post, my bad, thought they were oem struts still. I would suggest getting a roll center kit to help compensate for the lowered car. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. fahr_side
You can't or won't pay for the perfect solution, so mentioning this would be throwing pearls before swine. Mike is right and your struts will soon die. True story bro. Impatient
And I was about to delete my message ... Not trying to be forum Nazi. But I am pretty frustrated with my attempts to sort out my Outback. A few have put bilsteins hd's on, but also use spacers...and are still lower than I want...I just want a better ride...less jolt, less wobble, better handling is secondary...but worse handling not good either
Impatient
Fahr, who's bilsteins are gonna die? Mine won't cuz I can't figure out the right spring, so aren't even mounted. never mind, I'm off topic
fahr_side
Like Mike I missed the part about the Bilstiens. Still don't like Tein springs though.
