Reputable Subaru shops YOU would take your car to

Recommended Posts

This thread is to post up reputable Subaru repair shops in your area that YOU would not hesitate to take your car to. This can be very helpful to others who live in your area but don't have any idea as to who to take their cars to. This will be of great service to the entire forums.

Give the name of the shop, name of the contact person, address, website if they have one, and phone number. List experiences you've had with them and why you trust them. This will be a good thing for everyone on our forums and will help to maintain membership and grow.

SBT already said he would put this in as a STICKY, so wherever you are in the country, post up your shops you trust. Please put in the title the city and state you're recommending. The more information you can put in here, the better for everyone involved.

Get posting folks!

Thanks much,

John

Colonial Tire & Brake Somersville, CT 860-749-7988

Rich Plumb is the owner, my Dad used him back in the early 1980's, my son also uses him.

Address is 160 Main Street RT 190 Somersville, CT 06072

Joe is one of the Tech's there that has done anything on all my cars, that I don't want to deal with.

For an Automotive Machine Shop in north central CT, Eastwoods Auto Machine is the place most all the Subaru dealers send their heads, etc too. They are just a 1/4 mile down the road from Rich's.

http://eastwoodsautomachine.com/ on Eastwoods site, click on the "Import" link, you'll see the yellow civic in my avatar back before it was a race car. Eastwoods is the shop that assembled my ej257 and ported the heads. Eastwoods will also ship your parts if that works for you. They have shipped items all over the world.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

I have two places I recommend in the North Metro Atlanta, GA area without hesitation. Not only would I take my car to either place, they are the only places I do take my car.

The first is actually a dealership (yes, really).

Subaru of Kennesaw

The last service rep I dealt with was Stephen Barnes

905 Ernest Barrett Pkwy NW

Kennesaw, GA 30144

https://www.subaruofkennesaw.com/

888-653-1482

They really know their stuff here, and don't try to play any games. They've done quite a bit of maintenance and repair items on my car over the years, including both airbag recalls. Their service prices aren't bad, though the parts counter prices tend to run a bit high. I have not bought a car from them, but 2 family members and at least 1 friend have, and all had a good buying experience. I've been going there since they opened in 2008.

The second is an independent shop,

Allpro Subaru

Brandon, Stephen, or Patrick is who I've dealt with

1020 Nine North Dr.

Alpharetta, GA 30004

https://allprosubie.com/

770-751-7786

Brandon is the owner and lead mechanic. He is a Subaru trained mechanic who started out in a dealership and then decided to go out on his own. They really know Subarus here, and have very competitive pricing. I tend to think of them as a performance shop, but they can do any kind of repair and maintenance item as well. They've done a little of everything on my car, from uppipe, downpipe, and intercooler, to clutch, timing belt, struts, and spark plugs. They've been open since 2009, I think I started going there in 2011.

Phone: (718) 740-3277

This enthusiast shop started out in the Honda scene but have since branched out to Subaru, Nissan and beyond. They are professional, honest, and charge fairly. I've been using them for over 7 years.

Surgeline tuning in Portland, OR.

Email the shop manager Brandon at brandon@surgeline.com

If your car doesn't need tuning or anything along those lines then my friends over at Raleigh Hills Automotive in SW Portland are also really great. Manager's name is Mike, but they don't have email there. Old-fashioned shop.

They're pretty well known as the best Subaru shop in Hampton Roads, Virginia. They are very good at what they do and will you tell you what you need to keep your car running its best. I trusted them enough to put in a built engine and they were cool enough to keep my car between when they were done and when I got back from my last deployment. I'll be trusting them to install/dial-in my coilovers when I get back from my current one.

I took my car there for an up-pipe replacement and a pro-tune and they found the beginning of a head-gasket failure through exhaust gasses pushing coolant past the radiator cap. They gave me the option to rebuild, rebuild better, put a limp tune on it to make it last, or ignore it and waive any responsibility. I chose to rebuild better and I've been loving my experience ever since!

Great stuff JMP! Here in Indianapolis are two I use:

1) Tom Wood Subaru. Yes it’s a dealer. A little pricey but have always taken good care of me.

3300 E 96th St

Indianapolis, IN 46240

2) Diverse MotorWerks. Great independent shop owned and ran by former Subaru dealer tech and service advisor. Both drive turbo Subarus (Outback XT and STi) and mechanic there knows his stuff.

I have had them do transmission swap , clutch and flywheel.

They are a Cobb dealer and pro tuner as well and will be doing my tune shortly

They where very knowledgeable , competitively priced and really seem to know their stuff.

Not uncommon to see 200k plus cars in the lot and on the Dyno.

They support several race teams as well as run some cars of their own.

I've only personally used their alignment services but they will align your car to your specs and they welcome modifications. They have a parts warehouse on site, they have to be one of the most equipped Subaru shops around. They recommend tie rod replacement during the alignment and they had no issue modifying the tie rod ends for my STi steering rack and they had everything on hand already.

They built my 06 LGT, and have worked on my 09 WRX, 06 OB, 08 Legacy 2.5i, and my 2013 CVT Legacy 2.5i. They will not try to get you for money, and will tell you that you will not need parts so you save money.

Ask for Misha, or talk to Erica (she knows more then many of us when it comes to Subaru, and BMW lol.

Good day all,

I'm cardoc on SubaruOutback.org

If anyone is in Austin, Texas, or the surrounding area, I work in S Austin. You can PM me for contact information and I will get back to you.

All generations are covered through current models.

I don't guess. Unlike a lot of shops and the dealerships I will never tell you, "I want to try....." for any issues.

+1 on AllPro Subie in Alpharetta, GA (north Atlanta metro). They did a bunch of work over the years for me, including building a sweet 05 Baja Turbo for my dad.

I had several issues with Subaru of Kennesaw GA over the years though. Had a new 06 LGT (not the one I have now.... strangely) that took forever to get a new rear window due to FM radio issue w/ defroster. It was pulling teeth. But they got WAY bigger since then. However, they gave me a ton of runaround on my 2012 Outback 3.6R transmission, which continued to have problems until it went out of warranty. Same with Fox Subaru in Grand Rapids, MI. No problems according to shops, except it had problems and had too much silver in the fluid for 60-70K regularly. Dumped that car, sadly.

Only folks now who wrench on mine are me and there just happens to be a Subaru tech who lives up the street, with a lift in his barn.

The Mod Garage

Originally purchased just parts from them but they opened a shop and do just about everything from installs to rebuilds.

Sidenote, not sure if you'd be interested JmP6889928 but I've done maps for my employer in the past. Nothing fancy but puts all the info in one spot if that makes the search for a shop nearby easier (sample below). I'm down to continue it with your blessing. I'm not much of a gearhead so 'tis bout the only way I can help out

Can vouch for Dale at B4R. Bought parts off him while I was still in SoCal. Now that I've relocated to UpState SoCar, I'll be visiting him this spring.

Hey all, with the ok from JmP6889928 and SBT I cobbled everyone's recommendations so far into a Google Map. Hope this makes it easier to sift through and find a shop if you're ever in need of services.

Appreciate you doing this. Still no reputable shops in Southern CA? I've heard of Ubersport and Rally Sport. Ubersport tried to tell me I needed a 5K head gasket job, 2 years and 10K miles later I still definitely don't. Rally Sport I have no experience dealing with. Anyone have another rec?
