hmmrdwn thank you for your youtube post!!!! This made my filter replacement wicked easy. When I first saw the dampener I was like hmmm. I though I needed to pinch together the screw looking piece to get it off the dampener. Well I scratched the plastic, thankfully didn't break it and then found out the loop is rubber. Thought it was hard plastic lol. I was so dumb!!!! Live and learn I guess.

Side note.... peaty - When I took out the old filter that was installed by the subaru techs for free (first change was on house) the air flow arrow was pointed up (on the filter) and matched the plastic up arrow on the outer plastic housing. You sure that pic is right?

********Edit correction - After considering Peaty's pic, I take back my comment. I flipped my filter so that the arrow matched the air flow direction (arrow on aftermarket filter now points down) Having the big stuff on top would be impossible if the air flow was the other way around. **********
