New issue. I can't get into programming mode. Ive read to get in the car, close the door, and cycle the ignition on/off 10 times. The horn should honk then and it doesn't.

Revisiting this a year later after giving up. I figured it out. My dad recently bought a 99 Leggy Outback Limited on the cheap and I've been fixing it up for him to drive. It has a functional keyless entry so I figured I'd temporarily pull that and swap it into my 99 30th anny L. Having the two cars together was the key.
The non keyless cars have a separate door lock relay box/module on a separate harness connector that has to be unplugged, otherwise having both modules plugged in results in a blown fuse when the locks are actuated.
Hope this helps someone in the future. Ended up being very simple in the end. http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/61963ee81b0d7/received_55910589.mp4

Has anyone else done this? I've tried two modules with two different part numbers that plug in but they both pop the power lock fuse.

In my experience, outbacks just suck at mpg. I typically manage 18-20 mpg with my 5eat XT. That's a mix of city and highway. Not beating on it.
Even my 97 5 speed would never do better than 24.
Yeah I would expect to lose some pep for sure. It just sucks cause I remember some stations charging only 5 or 10 cents more for 93 and now it's 50 cents more minimum. Some are as much as a dollar higher per gallon. Really bones you if you DD your sube like I'm going to.
Has anyone ever managed to safely tune for 87 or even 89 octane? I'm not sure exactly when it started happening but all the stations out here cranked their prices on premium to 50 cents or more higher than regular. Is it even possible or just not worth the risk?
Kinda sucks going from a 45+ mpg TDI to a 20-25 mpg sube especially when the fuel is more expensive.
