I think you'd be pretty close in terms of caliper clearance but it may work. You'd also have to drill the rotors for 5X100 wouldn't you? Unless they make a 340mm rotor for the 04 STI?

No, the number just tells you that the caps were match machined to a specific head casting. You can do as boxkita suggested, and find a competent machine shop to touch up the cap if you boogered it...

I believe the cap numbers correspond to the head casting number, which you can find somewhere on the valvecover gasket sealing surface.

There are cam bearing clearances specified in the FSM.
