diagnostic mode for '12 HK stereo question
Has anyone been able to get their stereo to go into the diagnostic mode described in the service manual? It says with the ignition switch set to "ON", you turn the stereo off, then while holding down the preset-1 button, you turn the volume knob 40 clicks, then it's supposed to go into the mode, but I can't seem to get it to do anything.

I was thinking maybe it's only the Nav system which will do it, but the manual describes that system seperately (going to the audio-off screen then touching the left and right sides of the screen repeatedly)

the copy of the manual I have is from early on (I think the one on the techinfo site is version 8, now) so there could have been a correction to the procedure, but I would really rather not download the whole rotten manual again to check...

I have no idea and nothing wortwhile to contribute other than asking why you're looking to get into that mode anyway, or is it just to quiet the nerd that lives inside you? :)

I just like to tinker - I was looking at the service manual, and it describes how to get in and shows the screens you should be able to see, so I just wanted to try it out, so I guess it's to amuse the nerd inside me :) I don't think there is anything useful to actually set in there. (interestingly, in the service manual they show a screen which mentions a "camera system" (and the screen is completely different than the one they show for the NAV system) - there's also one for "speaker test" which I was curious about)

The procedure you found in the service manual is probably for the non-h/k HU model CE617U1. That procedure is similar to what other recent Subaru Clarion HUs use.

The h/k model is made by Panasonic (front # PE627U1). If it has a similar diagnostic menu, it likely requires different keypresses to access it.
