Imprezsing04
Hey guys, I went through the modified headlights thread and searched and doesnt seem like anyone has done this yet, or at least has posted pics of them. Any one know of a person on here or if your car has "smoked" or "tinted" headlight films/overlays. Like a lamin-x or something? I know people/vendors sell them but i havent seen any installed. (like taillight overlays) http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/08-09-tail-light-tinted-overlays-cutouts-side-mirror-and-117084.html?t=117084 I am thinking of blacking out my headlights but wondering how the smoked look would look first. I am interested in the light "tint" look, not a super dark smoke look. Let me know. Any direction would be great. Thanks!
Imprezsing04
Sorry I meant to say in the thread title to have "headlight" but I guess it is too late to change it now

Please post pics of when you install them but I am almost certain I am gonna get these soon anyway. Probably just the light tint though, the 12% ones. My friend a clear film on his jeep that has the plastic headlights and it kept it from the typical hazing/fading that happens to plastic headlights after some years. And since my headlights are only a few months old and they are plastic, I want to protect them. Ill take the blacked out route maybe later down the road. Biggu
I got mine direct from Lamin-X Put lamin-X on the Headlights + tailights and I think im in love. Not to dark not to light, perfect for all the dark accents on the car. Not to worried about output being affected as I have RX330 projectors, Phillips 4300K bulbs and TSX clear lense. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Legacy/laminx/DSC_0619.jpg left has the lamin-x on it and right does not, This shows the true color of the lights. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Legacy/laminx/DSC_0621.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Legacy/laminx/DSC_0623.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/Legacy/laminx/DSC_0628.jpg
Imprezsing04
Your car looks really nice! So it is pretty noticeable in person? I'm pretty much sold but just trying to think how it'll look on my obp. Also, my sidemarkers aren't cleared wondering if I should clear them. But the whole point of the laminx is partially so I could avoid baking and taking apart my headlights to black them out. Hmm

Hmm yea its noticeable in person. It changes darkness depending on how light it is outside, not nearly as dark as it was on my speed 3. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/2zumeunos/mazdaspeed3/tint/DSC_0093.jpg that was gun smoke i think. It didnt help that the back housing was black as well so it looked super dark. Any tips on install?? I am more curious about the bubble part/projector area. The part that sticks out:lol: I am sure a heat gun is needed honestly wasnt too bad, just take your time.on it. I lined up the corners and then started on the bubble and worked my way out from there. best thing about lamin x is that you can remove it and re apply as needed as long as its still wet. I didnt use a heat gun at all.

boostedgrocerygetter
whats the need for taking it off. and if for some reason you do need to take it off its not a breeze like the film. but you can get it off. i wet sanded and buffed mine just as you would to clean haze on a headlight to lighten them up and even them out and it worked perfectly. skers
For the head lights I had the tint from lamin-x didn't think it was dark enough so I switched to gunsmoke and I am reall happy with the gunsmoke look doesnt effect my headlights at all.. For the tail light I had gunsmoke and upgraded to charcoal and I'm in love with it its dark but in day light you can still see the red behind it.. Imprezsing04
Thanks skers, feel free to post more pics. The more I look at your car...the more I feel like I want to go with a darker gunsmoke color for the headlights... Ill put the light smoke on the headlights and taillights hopefully this weekend and see how it goes. If not, I may go darker too. The light smoke looks good on biggu's color but comparing the obp of your sker, of the light smoke to the gunsmoke, it looks so much more aggressive. I have an rbs grille and painted fog shrouds so it'll be all black in the front. No emblem either. At first I didn't want to go all back but It looks so good! Imprezsing04
The tails are too dark for my taste but the headlights seem good. And the headlights are in direct sunlight huh? I'm guessing in real life they look darker? Since your first picture that I posted of your car looks pretty dark. Hopefully I get around to it this weekend
Imprezsing04
Did just my rear turn signals because i bought a 2'x2' roll and doing the whole thing was hard because it kept bubbling and stuff. Also cause i was rushing and was in a parking lot with no soap and water. So i just did the turns but i may try and do the reds later http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z314/imprezsing04/2IMG01402-20110917-1047.jpg I got a few more pics coming. When it's about 5pm and it's getting darker, the tints look really dark. So I am going to do my headlights soon but wondering if i should leave my clear reflectors on and put the tint over it. Most likely I will remove the reflector. See this thread for the reflectors http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/cleared-my-08-09-headlights-without-baking-ricei-yes-noi-169953.html?t=169953
