Radar Detector setup

hey guys when i bought my car it came with a passport radar system. it has a seperate mute module next to the XM radio and from there it looks like it goes under the dash to the passenger side pillar where the wire runs along the windshield and pops out so i can plug in the actual scanner. question is, i hate seeing peoples radar's just sitting on the dash and obvious to anyone who feels the need to steal a nice setup.

if anyone has pics of their's stuck ANYWHERE other than the lower center of the windshield please post pics. ive heard the higher it sits, the better it scans....so im primarily looking to get it up near the rear view.

bottom line, just let me see your radar setup if its creative or anything other than the normal.

Check out the Blendmount, a nice sturdy aluminum base that lets you mount it directly under your mirror, without the ridiculous suction cup marks all over your window:

Then look at the stealthcord that lets you get power directly out of your mirror:

I'd prefer that mount over the suction cup mount, but the one I got is much better than the one that came with mine, with the two small cups. I also wanted to use the smart cord, which I mounted where the ashtray is, having Dremelled (is that a word?) out behind the ashtray and fed the Smart Cords display unit through.

I also had a hard time justifying $80 for a radar detector mount.

Mine was free too, part of some promotional accessory package I got. Think there was direct wire power cord too (not a smartcord), six month free financing, etc. Too good to pass up since I needed a replacement at the time. Their SuperCup windshield mount should really just be the standard one included in the package in my opinion. The dual suction cup one reminded me of the one I always hated on my Solo.

Cant take a pic since my car is at my friends place and staying there for over a week :(

What I used was a screen protector that uses solution to apply. Like this brand. These are more flexible and stickier then the screen protectors from the store. I placed this (using the solution) on the black dots above the rear view mirror. Then used the supplied suction cups with the radar detector for mounting (Note let the screen protector dry for 24hrs). This has been holding my Valentine1 for over a year without any problems at all. Still holding strong

My Valentine1 is not visible from the outside and the 'sensor' is just below the blue tint line (so no interference). If you have a oem navi or in dash navi, it may set off the laser warning on the detector. So I placed my business card between the radar detector and rear mirror. Fixed the warning and is still holding:lol:

Im Happy with the result, and most people will not notice it unless they look for it. I have a remote display too so that helps with the lights not showing the the detector

Easy removal too if do get pulled over. Remove the radar detector and move the wire to the driver's side and put down the visor (or tuck the wire)

Note: if you go this route choose a phone with a large screen, the screen protector will be larger

edit: I have used packaging tape and that did not stick well enough to the dots. And mounting it either to the left/right of the dots, the visor came into contact with the detector making the visor useless

The Blendmount is definitely a cleaner look, but anyway, here's my setup.

Here is mine. I modded an invisicord to work with the mirror(pins wouldn't fit). V1 is clipped to the passenger visor.

dingbang: Check out my shift knob layout LOL. Function>Form.

Its actually really nice. Most shifters become very notchy when you shorten them and I don't think I'll ever shorten a shifter ever again. Shortening the shifter is for Hondas and its very much not MORE functional. My hand barely has to move to shift now.

link fail . would your "device" stick up above where the black bubble things are above the mirror?

Fixed the link, but here it is so people don't have to backtrack:

I can go try, but if I put it higher than where it is it'll be a PITA to get to the buttons on top...thinking about it, I don't really use them and I could take it down if I had to.

I'll get back to ya. I need to go out shortly and will check. I'll say now that I have my doubts.

Invisicord? Where is it?

Does it draw power from your mirror? I like this setup!
