Gelacy
Where is the intercooler Awesome news! But where's the scoooooop There is no more hood scoop for the XT trims in regards to the next generation of the Subaru Forester. Subaru said they removed the hood scoop for a more mature look. Multiple car reviewers like Autoblog and MotorTrend also say that Subaru removed it for the aerodynamics but Subaru hasn't confirmed or denied that. As for the intercooler for the 2014 Subaru Forester, just look at these pictures. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-subaru-forester-la-2012/#photo-5468615

SBT
So that first post wasn't sarcasm, correct? Because the second post is telling me you're not being sarcastic. First post was sarcasm directed at Mazda. Subaru engineers typically over-engineer everything which makes me more confident in their solution... but I'm still concerned that they went with a ducted approach with even more of the airstream running over a hot radiator and engine. Seems like heat soak would be even more of an issue than current TMIC setups. DO really like the idea of the DOHC 2.0DIT, and expect it to be as stout as the 3.0/3.6 engines with the sealed timing chains. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

Captain Ned
Anybody got a sale date on the new Forester, as the wife's CR-V is long in the tooth and needs to be replaced? She'll be quite happy with the CVT and won't care about heat soak as she only wants to get around other people, not set low ET.

SBT
As far as I'm concerned, the jury is out on whether the hood scoop delete will be a good idea or not My point is that a ducted (underhood) TMIC seems like it would gain heatsoak, just by being fed air that has crossed over a hot radiator and engine - even more so in stop-and-go, sitting in traffic. Then into a TMIC that is sitting over a hot engine. Fortunately the turbo is down in front, ala the 5th Gen Legacy, so this does alleviate some of the next-to-a-blazing-hot-turbo issues that we deal with on the 4th Gens. As I mentioned previously, Subaru over-engineers its bits, and it certainly looks like there should be a more airflow than the MS6's tiny ducting into their TMIC (which sits right between the engine and the radiator and over the turbo). So we will see whether the "hood delete" as you've described it is a good idea or not. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

f1anatic
Is this the oil filter , by the engine cover ? http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-subaru-forester-la-2012/#photo-5468614.jpg Is Subaru doing away with the slit in the hood ? http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-subaru-forester-la-2012/#photo-5468615 and now channeling the air through the radiator grille http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-subaru-forester-la-2012/#photo-5468602 The engine will run too hot...and it will create problems...Even the air that cools the intercooler will have had a chance to warm up going between by the engine...I hope the STI will have a different cooling solution. The hood reminds me of Mazda Speed

TrueWhiteBoy
Should be interesting. I share the concerns, but I'm guessing their engineers have those same concerns as well. So I guess time will tell unless they issue some kind of press release stating why they went this route.

TrueWhiteBoy
Which is fine on its own, but until I hear some of their engineers specifically explain the benefits/flaws of this new design to the old I'm going to presume that there was more to it than just drag and looks (giving the engineers the benefit of the doubt)
