  1. Nice pic T, thanks for reminding me how much I really wanted the red one. In payback, I'll direct you to this thread, source of many sleepless nights for XT/GT owners. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67252
  2. @SpecB:What I meant is that I was glad I wasn't required to drop $60 bucks for a coolant change. That's gouging, I don't care what's in the jug. And is Subie's green somehow different from generic green? If not, is there any reason not to just use one of the new long life coolants like Peak Global? Those are made specifically to avoid the corrosion caused by green type coolant. I'm just asking because it's near impossible to separate what actually matters from Subaru just trying to screw you on some dealer priced BS. They remind me of Caterpillar, if you didn't buy it from them, it'll ruin your motor. Like the Holt's Rad sealer. If I ever had to do something like that to an engine I just built, it would embarrass me right out of the business.
  3. Just went to the Subaru dealer this morning to get their "super coolant". My dealer says it's not for use in pre-'07 vehicles and tried to sell me a very overpriced jug of green. Didn't go for that. By the way, the "blue" only comes in 50-50 pre-mix, AT $29.99 a GAL.!! I'm glad it's not "required" for my year. And I saw the little bottles of "HOLTS" cooling system sealer relabeled as Subie coolant conditioner. Kudos to the member who caught that. And I'm sick of trying to make sense of Subie's screwed up maint. sched. I'm doing everything now at 30K:Oil & filter, brake fluid, Tranny & diff oils, coolant. Maybe even plugs, though it runs good now(except in hot weather:mad:) All the inspections get done more frequently than required anyway. As a mechanic, I know what it means to catch things early.
  4. Had you checked the oil recently? Do you think it could have been two qts low before the failure? I think your dealer is trying to tell you that the egg laid the chicken. It seems much more likely that a turbo failure would cause oil to be lost into the intake and exhaust systems, which could then result in bearing and other engine damage. As well as getting metal bits into the turbo screen. But even two qts low shouldn't cause oil starvation failure expect under extreme driving conditions. The pump would still pick it up, the oil would just run much hotter.
  5. Yes, more info please. I've been trying to understand why these turbo failures almost always trash the engine as well. If it's just oil starvation from pumping it out through the turbo, that should be easy to avoid with a low pressure or level alarm.
  6. That was my first color choice, but I figured "Arrest Me Red" wouldn't go well with my driving style. I do wish I could have gotten that darker blue that comes on the LGTs. On a side note, did anyone else notice that this car is #8 on the ten most ticketed cars list? And not XTs, but OBs in general.
  7. Well, it's the first night of cold weather(mid-50s)here in Miami, so I took the XT out for a little performance test. I knew it would like the cold air but....., Damn! It's got to be 20% stronger than on a 90 degree day. Even the sluggishness off the line is gone. Now I need to move somewhere that's cold more often. I'm gonna hate summer now that I've seen what it's like in winter. Going upstate for halloween, I hope to find some 40s.
  8. Thanks for the tip on the hangers. I want to do something similar, but not melt my plastics. What I really want to know is, what's up with that cool grill? If anything needs changing right away, it's that ugly stock piece. Is yours aftermarket or home tooled?
  9. Details, details. Just got mine three months ago. Blue/slate(pics back a few pages, need to post new ones) How long have you had it? What do you like/don't like? What color?
  10. 60k in 18 months? Driving the damn tires off of it eh? Any mech/warranty issues yet?
  11. I did see something like that "ILL.6". What the hell is that? Can't go check it now cuz it's pouring rain. Car runs fine though.

Or was I supposed to say "WTF" in the open forum so I could get ragged on? :)

  12. I was just told by the dealer that Subaru doesn't recommend synthetic oil. What's up with that? I can't imagine a situation where syn would be inferior to reg oil. Are they just trying to keep them from lasting forever or what? Mines an XT. They'll have to have a real good reason for me to not protect my turbo with syn. oil. Anyone have any experience with this?
  13. Well, my car came in 4th of July morning! No tag, so I got to look at it for three days before driving it. Drove it 60 miles last night. The thing's a bullet. That fires 2 secs after you pull the trigger.(damn turbo lag) But once it goes....yeehaw! And smooth as a jet. '05 OB XT 5eat.
  14. Damn hard to find red or blue. I could do without the two-tone though. But this was the best deal/lowest miles. Wish I could find one the deep blue of the LGTs. Might have to squirt the lowers the same color in the future. Not even here yet and I'm already painting it.
  15. I will be a first time Subie owner in a week or so. I just sent the contract back for my used(25K mi.)1 owner OB XT 5at in Atl.Blue/granite/off black. I'm buying it from Planet Subaru of Hanover,Mass. Any comments on car or dealer would be welcomed. Long-distance car purchase is making me nervous. I plan on switching all fluids to synthetic at first opportunity, Mobil 1 plus Lucas treatment for the motor. Any problems with that I should know about? I already know to not drain the transaxle by mistake, a buddy did that years ago on his Tercel. Also, is service fairly simple for a competent mech?(which I am) Can that 30K service be DYI?
