  1. If you are trying to save money, OEM is most certainly not the way to go. There is a number of aftermarket options though. The one that I found working reasonably well is SportRack SR1010 (crossbars are available at Walmart for $139). SR is owned by Thule and the rack even looks like Thule of yesteryears. You'll have to pick up a kayak attachment separately but I don't think it is very expensive.
