  1. One caliper pin was seized on the driver side (1st photo). Both pins glide freely and smoothly on the passenger side (third photo). The pads are pretty seized in the brackets though. I always wire brush and grease the bracket/clips when I change brakes. Think that'll do me?
  2. Attached some pics. These are from my wife's '08 legacy front brakes. What could be the cause? Calipers are only a couple years old. Also it looks like my cv axle is bad on the front right. Grease coming out of the transmission-side boot. Loud howling coming from the front right (I think). Figured that was the bearing. Thanks in advance!
  3. Level is ok. I just cleared the codes and took her for a drive and didn't have any issues. I'll have to check the battery but it's not old. Maybe a couple years? I'll check the grounds too. I have a great local mechanic that I only go to for inspections but he does just about everything and he let's me know when the car needs something so I can fix it myself. Gonna see if he'll take a look and I'll go from there. Thank you for all your help! I'll keep updating for others with similar issues.
  4. She does have a car starter that I had installed for her a few years ago... Tranny fluid looks good.
  5. Wow. Thank you so much. I appreciate the time you put into that response and it was incredibly informative! I'll be sure to update as I go and let you know.
  6. Hey! Just want to start out by thanking this community for all the help over the years diagnosing and fixing my Subaru's. Without you guys I would have struggled to find my way learning to work on cars. The issue I'm having this time is with my wife's 2008 Legacy. She's having starting and stalling issues. The other day she had a hard time turning it over and had to pump the gas to get her started. It's not throwing any codes. The next day it stalled out on her twice. Once going around a turn and once in the driveway. It was idling really low when she slowed or came to a stop. My initial thought was fuel pump as there have been fuel issues in the past. A couple of years ago she had a strong gas smell and I removed the fuel pump when the gas gauge read about half full. The tank was actually full It poured gas out when I did. Since then if she keeps the gauge around half full it doesn't smell of gas inside the car. I replaced her spark plugs too a while back when the car threw a code for cylinder misfire. It fixed the problem but I noticed there was some oil on the old spark plugs when I removed them. Not sure if that is related to what's going on now but thought I should mention it. Any help would be much appreciated as always. Update 1: She started right up no problem. However, I did get a CEL this time along with flashing cruise light and an error on the trip odometer reading "Er AA" The codes are as follows: p0304 cylinder 4 misfire p0302 cylinder 2 misfire p0700 transmission control system (MIL request) p0715 turbine/input shaft speed sensor circuit then it repeats p0302, p0304 and p0700 for a total of 7 codes.
  7. Was driving last night and noticed the CEL came on with flashing "cruise" light. Car started idling rough when I came to a complete stop, dropping RPM and shaking the whole car, sounding like its about to die. Made it home by fluttering the gas in neutral at stops. Plugged the code reader in and got 2 codes but both were the same P0171. Figured I would start by running an injector cleaner in the fuel but when I started it today it would idle for 10-15 seconds and then stall. Any ideas on what might be going on here and where is a good place to start? Thanks! Update: First of all, thank you for all the help and suggestions, this site and its users are awesome. So I purchased the MAF sensor cleaner. As I was removing the sensor I noticed the intake hose was loose on the manifold side. previous owner/mechanic must not have fully seated the hose before tightening the fastener and as I was driving down a bumpy dirt road, it shook off. Cleaned the sensor and the filter anyways and buttoned everything up and it no longer stalls when idling at a complete stop. However the car still idles down (when coming to a complete stop) to the point where it shakes and almost sounds like it will stall before reving up again. Any thoughts? I did not check for vacuum leaks or spark plugs/wires...
