Hi all, a month ago I turned on my 2016 2.5i (90,000 km (55,000 miles)) here in Montreal in the morning and my transmission was broken. Replacement was covered by my warranty, and within a week and a half, and without having to argue, my local Subaru dealership put in a brand new one. When I asked them why the original one broke so early, they told me they weren't allowed to look inside the transmission and insisted I had to contact Subaru Canada if I wanted to know what had gone wrong. Then I called Subaru Canada and their automatic responder told me that if I wanted any technical information about my vehicle I should contact my local Subaru dealership, before promptly hanging up on me. Does anyone have any idea how I should go about getting more info about this mechanical problem? All I know is the codes they read when it rolled into the shop (P2751 and P0841). I want to know more details, like was it the Quebec winter that killed it, was it just a lemon, was it abused by its past owner, do CVTs just suck after all, etc. I may have a brand new transmission but I am obviously concerned now about the longevity and resale value of my car. If you are curious you can try doing the calculation yourself on paper or in your head. Tire width (mm) × aspect ratio ÷ 100 = Sidewall height. Multiply your sidewall height difference by 6.28 (2 × pi) and you've got your difference in tire circumference (difference in distance of one wheel revolution). Hey sorry just saw this. Yes rust is reaally bad in Quebec with all the snow plus they use a ton of salt on the roads so it definitely kills resale value. Usually once the car is 4-5 years old you start getting it rustproofed before every winter, for which there are various techniques and shops, plus it is a good idea to get it washed often, even in the winter. If you're lucky enough to have indoor parking that can help too. That's the extent of my wisdom on the subject though, I am not a very experienced car owner at all. Awesome thanks for the tips folks- I guess I'll go for 6 months oil change as per the maintenance sched even though it could mean changing after only 2500 km lol . (1500 miles approx.) I'm also lucky enough to have a 10$/h self service community garage in the neighbourhood so I'll try to get a regular look at the undercarriage and see what kind of abuse our Montreal potholes'll have done to it. I didn't bother rustproofing it yet since it's so recent. The motor seems so far so good although the harmonic balancer does wobble a little when its running, don't know if that's bad. Hi folks, bought a black 2016 Legacy 2.5i Touring (canadian trim) a month ago at a Dodge dealer here in Montreal - it's got 79000 km and it's by far the nicest and least broken car I've ever owned! So I was wondering if I could get some tips for keeping it in top shape and learning some DIY along the way: As someone who lives a 15min walk to work I will try to avoid the temptation to do daily short trips which I understand is bad for longevity but I will use it for weekend activities/errands and also for 2-3 road-trips (over 1000km apiece) per year to visit family, so probably only 5 or 6000km a year only. I park it on the street here and winters are very snowy and cold in these parts so a frequent wash is on my to do list as well.
