  2. Yeah we had no way to tell. It felt tight, but that tensioner had a crack in it, so who knows. We may have to try a new tensioner first.
  3. Hello, Today a friend installed the AC belt in our 2009 Subaru Legacy because it had snapped. We got the belt put back on but when you turn on the AC it just squeals real loud. The belt spins normally when it is off, but when you turn on the AC it grabs the belt (stopping it for a short moment) then starts spinning. A real loud squeal comes from the AC compressor area. So I am wondering if it is most likely one (or more) of the following 3 things 1 - The AC compressor clutch 2 - The compressor itself seizing. If this is the case is it something you can possibly change yourself. It is right up top, but not sure what's involved. 3 - There seems to be a crack along the side of the receiving part of the tensioner bracket where the long screw screws in. So not the top part where the long bolt is, but the part it screws it down in to down by the pulley wheel. Could it be that this is preventing it from tensioning correctly and that is why it is squealing? Please let me know what you think, and thanks for any responses.
  4. Thanks a lot for answering my question. I appreciate it. I have ordered a new belt, so a friend and I will change it. Hopefully it will fix the AC, it hasn't been great for awhile now. The AC would stop blowing cold at idle and would squeal from time to time.
  5. Hello, Our AC has barely been working in our 2009 Legacy. It has been squealing as well. I am away from home and while my girlfriend was driving it she said that while stopped the car made an awful noise and a bit of smoke came out from the center of the hood. (front or back not sure). She said it drove fine after that. I am still away and a friend checked it out for me. He said it looks like the AC belt has snapped. My question is: Is this belt ONLY for the AC? If we drive it with no belt is that ok, or does it drive something else as well? I will be heading home tomorrow and just wanted to make sure the car would be safe enough for her to come pick me up. Thanks in Advance. PS - It's not a turbo engine. It's a 2.5L

  7. Hello, I need to run power wire to an amp in the trunk of the car. It's fairly thick wire. I noticed the below grommet on the firewall. Does anyone know what it is for? Does it lead to the inside of the car? Would it hurt to run a wire through it? Thanks for any info you can provide. I know... I KNOW... I spelled grommet wrong in the pic...
  8. Quick question. I was looking around the engine bay and right in front of the driver area on the firewall there is a large grommet with nothing going in to it. It's kind of diamond shaped with soft edges. Do you know what this is plugging up? Can wire be run through it?
  9. Thanks for the info. I think with the regular stereo there is a sub under the seat and wiring to the back of the stereo is ok, because that is where the speaker harnesses plug in. My car has the Harmon Karden (spelling) system in it, however, and I believe this means there is an amp under the passenger seat. This amp controls the different speaker and the sub which is under the deck lid behind the back seat. With this setup I may be forced to tap the line output converters somewhere other than the back of the stereo. I may be wrong, however. Maybe I can still tap it off of the stereo. That would probably be easier than my other options.
  10. Hello, For the longest time I have had a good amp lying around that I used to use in a subwoofer system in a Jeep Grand Cherokee we used to have. Recently I have been getting the car audio itch and decided I wanted to install it in our 09 Legacy. This Legacy DOES have the HK system in it. I believe I have gotten most of what I need to do the install for it, but I do have a few questions. 1 - Any "gotchas" in running the power wire from battery to trunk? Any advice to make that process easier? 2 - What is a good spot to ground in the trunk? 3 - I am using Line Output Converters to get music signal to the amp. I am not replacing the head unit or speakers or anything in the car. What is the least painful speaker to tap in the car for signal? I know there is a subwoofer in the back already, but it looks like it's mounted up side down, and the wire to it is obscured, I am guessing under the rear deck panel behind the seats? I looked at how this comes off and it looks to be fairly involved. I was thinking maybe one of the speakers in the back door, but that panel also looks to be a pit of a pain to get off. The door handle (opener) looks to be the worst part with cables and such.. I can just see me never getting that back on right... Also, I know the HK amp is under the front passenger seat (I think). I believe I can tap off the subwoofer signal there, but is that wiring harness hard to get at? Would I have to loosen or remove the seat? How hard is that to get back in!??! I would say my biggest hurdle so far is just getting that speaker signal to the amp. Also, I have a 5 farrad capacitor. Would anyone recommend installing that too? Someone on reddit said they are useless, but it's just sitting around. Worth it at all, or no? Thanks in advance!
