  1. So, after many years of admiring the 4th gen platform, I finally pulled the trigger a few years ago on a 2005 LGT Wagon 5sp. It had 119,000 miles on it, so I figured there would be some work involved but I got a good deal and don’t have car payments! Quickly the factory turbo died. While replacing that, I did the grim speed stage 3 package to replace the inter cooler and down pipe that may have gotten oil/coolant/turbo bits in them. I also electively swapped in the 6-Speed drivetrain and brembos. I had a fueling issue that caused me to do the Injector Dynamics 1000cc top feed conversion. Every time something comes up I am happy to fix (or upgrade it) because I don’t have those car payments and honestly where else am I going to find a Turbo, Manual, AWD Station wagon? However, this latest issue has become a little frustrating to trouble shoot. I recently moved to Minneapolis and noticed a small hesitation on my drives between Madison and MPLS as I was moving. The hesitation was usually short lived and would go away after a few seconds. One night, with my entire family in the car, the car died as I was pulling away from a light. It took maybe a minute for trying to get it restarted, but it eventually got us to dinner. It pulled a P0345 code and P1572 code during the event. This happened again on the way home. The next day I took it to RS Motors here in the cities and the car was acting completely normal. We swapped Intake Cam Sensors between the bank to try and see if it was the sensor or the relay going bad. I drove it for another 4 weeks without event. When it did stall again, it pulled the same code P0345, so we could rule out the sensor. Took it back to RS and it was acting normally again. They told me to drive it until it was doing it consistently. Flash forward another month or so to last Tuesday. The car had been having hesitations more often and dying consistently. It actually wouldn’t restart at this point. Towed it back to RS and they spent a few hours tracking the issue back to the ECU. It is waiting on a local dealer to get a new ECU to swap it in. I am uncertain if this vehicle got the “Service Campaign” for the Radiator Fan Relay issue back in 2007, but the radiator fan was definitely always on, even with the key in ACC. Have any of you experienced dying ECUs? Have you had similar experiences with an odd intermittent hesitation/stall/no start? Did everything get better once the ECU was replaced? The car was tuned by Top Shelf outside Madison, WI and it ran very well when these events were not present. Pulled hard, made good boost. AFR was in good ranges. Never over heated.
  2. I just wanted to add that I finished up my JDM FSTi swap and put in about 300 highway miles this weekend. I am completely satisfied with the swap. Highway speeds under 3000rpm makes cruising so much more pleasant. I haven't been able to take advantage of all the LSD's in the drivetrain yet but the gearing is worth the price of admission for certain. The only issue I need to sort out is that I experienced a sensation when reversing into a parking spot in full turning lock. It felt like the transmission was in "Lock" with a little bit of bucking at low speed. Everything else has been rainbows and unicorns.
  3. Awesome! Thanks. I'll start buying my bits and getting ready for an install in early may.
  4. I've been getting my parts list together for the swap. I am going to attempt to get everything together for early may. The Transmission arrived with the diff, starter, some axles and shifter linkage. Since it's all out of the Forester STi, I am pretty certain the axles and linkage won't fit, so i'll have to source those. I need to look at the transmission closer to see if anything else on the list came included with the trans. Here is the list. I am hoping Tema can chime in with the specifics of the Forester swap. Transmission: JDM Forester STi "C" TY856WL4CC (2004) Rear Differential: JDM Forester STi R180 Rear Diff Clutch/Flywheel: Reuse Legacy 5-Speed Clutch/Flywheel (Recently Replaced) Driveshaft: Legacy 4eat Automatic Driveshaft or 07-09 Legacy Spec-B Driveshaft. Front Axles: Reuse Legacy 5-Speed Axles and Front Axle Seals Rear Axles: 07-09 Legacy Spec-B Axles (28421AG03B) Axle Seals (806732200) Shifter Linkage: 08+ STi or 07-09 Legacy Spec-B Clutch Fork: 30530AA050 Clutch Release Shaft: 30532AA020 Clutch Slave Cylinder: 30620AA172 Clutch Hose: Throw-Out Bearing: 6MT Rear Transmission Mount: Downpipe Support Bracket: 44021FE030 Various Seals: Various Fluids:
  5. Well, after lookin around for the past few weeks, I found a good deal on the “4cc” version of the Forester STi transmission/r180 riff. Should be here in about a week. Time to start looking around for all the other bits I’ll need to get the swap underway. My 5spd has 122,000 miles on it and is starting to make a few noises in lower gears. I’m really looking forward to not being at 3400rpm at highway speeds in top gear!
  6. That's promising news. Has anyone seen it that could tell me all the axles/driveshaft/mounting points would be similar? Just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be too many curve balls with sourcing parts.
  7. So I did some searching but could not find an example of this set up. Does anyone know if the JDM Forester STi trans and diff have the same dimensions as all other Subaru 6-Speeds? It seems like the perfect combination of Front LSD, Tall 5th and 6th gear, No DCCD. I just have not seen anyone used the SG9 drivetrain in their BP/BL chassis car. I cannot find a USDM Spec-B drivetrain, but there are a few JDM Forester STi Trans @ Diffs on ebay. Has anyone ever attempted it?
  8. The rear bumper looks awesome! Did you end up taking the bumper support off or trimming it back? If so, is that a pretty involved process?
  9. Awesome! Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll look through ebay and I put out a request to HKC Speed, hopefully they can get back to me with good news.
  10. Hey Everyone, I have been looking to source some JDM bumpers, but I have been having some difficulty finding the right inventory. I have google searched and looked through these forums but haven't found any vendors that are selling what I am looking for. I really would like the Spec-B front bumper with just a regular JDM rear bumper for my 05 wagon. Is there any vendor that can reliably track these things down? Or do I just have to keep searching and be patient? Thanks for any help! Excited to cut down these overhangs!
