  1. New timing kit, heads decked and new head gaskets, new front stabilizer links, new plugs, new oil and filter, new air filter, new PCV, new water pump and thermostat, new coolant, cleaned throttle body and plenum, new VVT solenoids, new cam and crank seals. All Gates, Aisin , NGK and Subaru parts, total $765.36. A little know how, Youtube and a good set of tools really pays off. Now I can call this new (Used) car my own. Oh and yes, it runs great, got 34 mpg hwy, and 24 city so far.
  2. The issue with this tiny oil screen is the mesh is ripped open. Its ripped from the inside outward. I'm debating if I need to have it in there at all...
  3. I hope not, i just pulled out the other head filter and it's screen is also broken open. I'm wondering how common this might be. I'm also wondering how critical this filter is being that my car ran fine other than the oil leaks caused by the head gasket.
  4. Can someone help me identify this small filter that is in my valve control assembly. The screen on the filter is broken and I need a replacement. I found this while getting my heads ready to go to the machine shop for resurfacing. It's the tiny black and silver mesh filter that fits down into the oil passage of the control housing. Whats it called and does anyone have a part number? I think it a smaller version of the bango filter in a turbo model, but mines is a non turbo with VVTI. See links or pics below
  5. I wonder if "Anti seize" would be a good lubricant for the starter?
  6. My sound is a quick grinding noise. It's the starter (Bendix) gear not retracting quick enough after the engine starts, the grinding is the starter gear on the flywheel. Normally once the engine starts the starter gear retracts off the flywheel very quickly, but the lack of lubricant or gunk on the Bendix causes the started gear to retract much slower. I'm going to read the sticky and see whats up...
  7. Has anyone had any luck pulling the starter, taking it apart, cleaning the gunk, re-greasing the moving parts to stop the noise of the Bendix gear not retracting after start. Wow that was a long sentence. 09 Legacy 2.5i, non turbo. starter always works and randomly gets noisy on cold mornings. Starting to happen more often. Any advice on what type of grease to use once cleaned and disassembled or other tips. Thanks in advance.
  8. Trying to find a hood that's the same color, mine has a bad dent in it. I'd like a bolt and play. I' been reading that the 2005-2009 Legacy and the 2005-2007 Outback do share the same hood. 08-09 Outbacks hood are slightly different.
  9. Found out what was going on, both the H7 low beam headlights were installed incorrectly, who ever replaced them before did not line up in the headlight assembly correctly. They were sitting cockeyed in the light socket not pointing all the light directly forward to the projector lens. Once I installed them correctly the headlights worked perfectly. Oh also buffing out the headlight UV oxidization helped too. FIXED
  10. I have a 09 Legacy that I'm looking for some front end parts. Does the Gen 4 Outback and Legacy share the same front end parts such as the wheel well liners, hood, and fog lights. Trying to expand my search criteria. Thanks for any help or clarification.
  11. Just bought my 09 Legacy limited, I also noticed that the headlights are dim on my car. I'm going to buff out the oxidation on the lens and see how much that helps. The bright lights give the illumination I expect, the regular lights are significantly dimmer than the brights. Hmmm
