  1. I couldn't find a "General Discussion" forum for the Legacy, so I'm posting it here in the "News" section. I suppose it is news, but for myself? My first car was/is a Subaru Legacy 3.0R. It came from Japan to New Zealand, and I'm the first and only New Zealand owner. I've put about 94k km on it, and have driven it since about 2016. Soon enough, it looks like I will be selling it and going onto my next car. What's my next car? Well tomorrow I'm going in to look at a 2010 WRX STI. If everything looks good (which it seems to on paper and picture) I will be buying it. The Legacy will sit around home until I fully tidy it up and prepare to sell it. I only have a few posts on this website, but I have to say the information has been invaluable to all the projects I've undertaken on my car. I've found out little facts I never knew about the car, have read many interesting discussions (while not having posted here much) and have loved the car! I feel like there is something very special about the Fourth Generation Legacy 3.0R. Everything was RIGHT. It wasn't too big, it had a six cylinder boxer engine and it was.... Well, it was/is just a special car. Nowadays so many sedans are much bigger and also with smaller engines. The EZ30 liked fuel, but it was on a slightly smaller car. It was my first car, and only years after driving it (probably for a good reason) did I realise the power it had. Yeah I haven't posted much here, but when I sell this car, it is going to be sad to leave the Legacy community. I have gotten a lot of information here, and it has been great! Part of me wonders if I should keep her around; make it a hobby car and tidy it up, rebuild the engine and tune her in my spare time. Who knows right now. Massive thanks to everybody in this community. Anything I ever Googled about my car, I often found the information here. Discussions and fun facts I found here. We all get sentimental when we sell a car, I suppose I can tie this forum to my car because of what I learned here. Hope I can stick around and share some information maybe. Well I suppose that's it! If anybody has questions about the JDM 2005 Legacy please ask them! Now is my time to give back.... I don't know everything but I am happy to help. Thanks, all of you guys rock
  2. Hey LegacyGT team, I currently own a 2005 JDM 3.0r Legacy Sedan. It has hit about 215k km (133k miles) on the odometer, and while I've had no engine troubles, or any major issues, I think now may be the time to move on to a newer Legacy. The fifth generation and more recent Legacys don't do it for me. They all seem a lot bigger, the back of the fifth is ugly (the car reminds me of a Camry or something, to be honest), and 4th gen just felt right in every way. Comfortable, the right size, good power, and great daily driver (with a splash of sports). From research I've noticed the newer ones put out similar power, however they are larger. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm thinking of getting a 3.0 08' or 09' Legacy. I've owned my 05' for 4 years, so getting a new one (pretty much four years newer) with lower miles could almost be a "reset". I get a newer Legacy with less mileage that is so similar to my older one. What are your thoughts on this, and anything I should look out for? Am I missing something with the newer models? Thank you!
  3. Now for an UBER BUMP. I looked through manuals (but they were all U.S.), I couldn't find a translated JDM manual, and I heard about the "Turn the key 10 times and use the lock/unlock buttons to program your key", which didn't work. I found the answer, bloody years later. My key looks like his, except it has a boot/trunk release button. HOW TO PROGRAM YOUR KEY FOR THE 4TH GEN JAPANESE SUBARU LEGACY 1. Remove the panel to the right of the of the accelerator pedal. It is on the side, just in front of the door. There should be a clip screw on its far left 2. There is a green cable, and there should also be a white cable (Which is unplugged) 3. Plug in the white cable 4. Without the key in the ignition, hold down the door lock/unlock switch on the driver's door in the UNLOCK position. Keep holding it down. The car should start beeping. 5. While holding it down and while the car is beeping, on the remote press the LOCK button twice. For me, the doors locked and then unlocked. You can now release the lock/unlock switch and unplug the white cable. Make sure your remote battery isn't flat first. This method is completely different to what U.S. owners have mentioned. I called Subaru NZ and the guy was completely surprised and laughed at the "Turn key 10 times and put in eight digits" method. Apparently this works on models up to 2012, and it worked on my Jap Import 2005 Subaru Legacy 3.0R. It took so long for me to figure this out, so I am bumping and posting this so that someone else can benefit. This thread came up in Google, and I thought the last post was somebody who had the exact same problem as me, but it was actually myself who made the post lol. Hope this helps.
  4. MEGA BUMP. I have a 4th gen JDM legacy sedan and my JDM key no longer works. It started with having to hold the lock/unlock button for about 6 seconds. Then 30. And now it must be indefinitely. Battery has obviously been changed. I served a locksmith at the store I work at, and he said it could be "resynced" with some button normally behind the accelerator pedal. Then I read about an 8 digit code inside the remote that can be programmed with the lock/unlock button on the door. Inside my key is only a four digit code, however. Help?
