  1. Yeah, that's a treacherous path to start down. I got my 10R, and she was happy as a passenger for one summer; then she had to have her own. Figuring she'd dump it, I got her a '97 ZX6. She did, a couple times. Once she got that out of her system, she wanted something faster, so I gave it away and got her an '05 R6. She was pretty happy with it, until she road my literbike one night because her R6 was acting up and I didn't feel good with her on it so we swapped. So the R6 got traded for a '12 CBR 1kRR. She'll probably be wanting a ZX14R next...

  5. Gear is the main factor. With the right gear you can comfortably ride when it's way too cold for road conditions to be safe on two wheels. Regardless, I still need two batteries. *sigh*

  7. The wife's '06 will turn over 180K this week, won't be payed off for another year and needs a bunch of stuff. I'm really torn. She loves it and it's been pretty reliable, the payment is so easy I could pay it off in a few months if I didn't have so much else on my plate. I'm just not sure if I want to go all in for what it needs. Original dampers are going soft, control arms are making noise, coils are testing on the fritz, can't keep brakes or bearings in it for a reasonable amount of time and the tires wear shitty whether they get rotated or not. I wanted to buy her this car from the first time I saw the "new" body in '05, but that's gonna be some uncomfortable coin in what I can't believe is a pretty old car already. It sure is sexy though...
  8. 1) I ride a 2005 ZX10R Ninja. Wife rides a 2012 CBR1000RR. Actually, I ride it more than she does. I have tons of great pics, not posting. Thank the rapists at Photobucket. 2) I bought it to commute, and used to do that. I rode everywhere possible. New job with a company vehicle, free is cheaper than cheap, don't want to leave it at work all day, now I just ride recreationally. Wife still commutes on hers sometimes, but she's white collar and it's a little tougher to deal with riding gear, gym clothes, and a business suit on a bike. So it goes. 3) I started riding when I got tired of paying over $5/gal to fuel my Mustang GT that only got 17mpg. So, sometime just over a decade ago. 4) MSF course was completely wasted on me. That said, there is no easier way to get the M-cert on your license, and well worth doing just for that reason. Also: tires. "I think these are still good" means it's time to throw them out. Learned the hard way, and there's nothing you want to learn the hard way on a motorcycle.
  9. Yeah, just had to replace both of those on ours around that same mileage as well. So it goes...
  10. Any intake that lets more air in is going to cause a lean condition without a fuel remap, and it's not going to make power unless it wasn't getting enough air in the first place. Which is to say, I've never heard of an intake "making power" on a stock/nearly stock LGT, and any intake in that situation that doesn't cause problems probably isn't going to justify it's existence if and when it's highly modified. I can see now why it was shitty for you, but it sounds to me like you're criticizing a screwdriver for not being a good enough hammer.
  11. I've been meaning to get in for that recall. Hard to do when you're driving it though...
