  1. The timing of this getting bumped was quite the coincidence. I actually just replaced my 2016 Legacy 3.6R. My lease was up and it just wasn't worth purchasing. I felt like I was going to have nothing but issues with it - in the weeks before I turned it in, my battery somehow died, and I started getting a melting plastic smell from the HVAC system when the heater was (on amongst other issues while I owned the car). I knew I made the right decision when I brought it to the dealership and they declined to purchase it for their inventory. I'm currently driving my 2018 Corvette Grand Sport as my daily driver since it's finally warm enough. My parents also just took delivery of a 2015 BMW M235i xDrive Coupe for me today which will be my "official" replacement for the Legacy and serve as my daily in the winter time and on bad weather days in the summer. Purchased it out of state since the closest comparable car local to me was about $5000 more expensive. Even the options at dealers within ~250 miles weren't as enticing in terms of value.
  2. One of the most accurate descriptions I've ever heard of Chemical Guys was that they aren't a detailing supply company, they're a marketing company that sells detailing supplies. And it's entirely accurate. They have 22 freaking different types of car wash soap if you count each scent as it's own type (which Chemical Guys seems to do themselves on their comparison chart). If multiple scents only count as one, it's still something like 15-16 different soaps. Meanwhile, Meguiar's has 4. Adam's has 4. Griot's has 3. CarPro has 3. Nanolex has 2 (3 if you count the prewash concentrate). But Chemical Guys needs TWENTY TWO. Sure, there stuff may work. But imo, they do a lot of stuff alright but do nothing great/the best. I know it's largely subjective, but they're all hype and marketing to me. There's definitely better options out there for the price and also alternatives that offer better value.
  3. I got my windshield replaced after a nasty piece of rock or concrete or something cracked it last Thursday. Dropped it off at the dealership on Friday, by the time the glass company showed up to repair it Monday, it had turned into a giant crack. So, huge shout-out to SOA for agreeing to cover the replacement cost. Also had a chat with the service manager expressing my frustration over the situation and the other issues I've had at the dealership before (drain plug wasn't fully tightened on the first oil change, issues with the washer nozzles after the first windshield replacement, needing multiple stereo replacements). I also went over the other issues with the vehicle I needed to have taken care of (driver's seat cover is ripped, the front console somehow got damaged), and they also agreed to replace my fog light that has a big chip in the lens. After all of the issues I've had with my 3.6R, I honestly don't think I'd spend money on a "nice" Subaru again. The vehicle is plenty nice, but the quality isn't on par with actual luxury vehicles and I've had more issues than I want to deal with in <2.5 years. I'll turn it in when the lease is up and look at something like a base model Legacy or Impreza for a cheap winter car.
  4. I had the same problem, and I had to get my radio replaced to fix it. If you warranty just recently expired, I would try reaching out to SOA to see if they would still be willing to cover a radio replacement given the situation.
  5. I admittedly can't tell you why we require amber side markers and allow red rear turn signals when when other countries don't. That goes beyond anything I know.
  6. I guess it's worth mentioning the difference between a reflex reflector and a side marker. Side markers are the actual lights that emit to the side of the vehicle. A front and rear side marker is required under federal law. The front ones must be amber, and the rear ones must be red. (FMVSS 108 Table I-a) The reflex reflectors are the plastic lenses that reflect light rather than emit them. Typically, you'll see a side marker integrated with the reflex reflector in some way or another. That's the case with our headlamps. In the US, both the front side marker and front reflex reflector need to be amber in color. The law you quoted is a more generic way of aligning with federal standards - headlamps obviously cannot output blue or red light and such. The front lights must only have white, yellow, or amber colors. It doesn't mean that the side marker can be white - it still needs to comply with federal standards too which require an amber color for side marker. Just want to note - I don't mean to be rude or a dick or anything. I work in automotive lighting and like to put my somewhat specific knowledge to good use when I can. Also doesn't mean I agree with the laws or think people shouldn't retrofit headlamps or anything like that.
  7. An amber reflex reflector is required under FMVSS 108. Clear reflex reflectors are not legal in the US. Personally, I think you're unlikely to get pulled over for it or get a ticket. But still, it's technically not legal in the US. Also, just gonna mention since I'm familiar with lighting - lighting devices are self-certified in the US. Lighting manufacturers and OEMs are not required to do anything like submit parts to the DOT for certification or such - they typically do the testing themselves to verify the light meets legal requirements.
  8. While I certainly understand the frustration, from the OEM side (not Subaru, but still) of things, I can say don't forget form needs to follow function. Parts need to be validated and work properly first - worry about getting dimensions perfect second. Typically yes, you would want a vehicle being used for marketing or photo shoots to be in tip-top shape, but it's easy for other things to take priority.
  9. Hold off on any judgment until you see a car on your dealer's lot - it's quite typical for these earlier to vehicles to be less than stellar dimensionally. If cars won't be on sale until summer, that's a lot of time for a supplier to work on improving these fit and finish issues.
  10. Just gotta say it, it'd be a bi-LED projector. Bi-xenon would mean HID rather than LED. Sorry to be picky, it's just become a pet peeve since I work in automotive lighting now. That being said, the headlamp design in the pictures would make me think it's a bi-LED projector. The cavity inboard of the projector appears to only be for turn signal with a decorative piece to help hide the bulb (it may also be functional to help with turn signal visibility, can't say for sure either way). If I had to guess, NAL is likely the supplier again as they are for '15-'17. (Totally off topic, I'm still working to get myself a pair of Limited headlamps sans projectors without the lens glued in place, it may be time to talk with my coworker that spent some time at NAL as an optical engineer).
  11. RetroRoo 6401 N. Broadway, Suite D Denver, CO 80221 720-440-1662 http://www.retroroo.com/ Car felt quite weird driving it the other day and noticed a broken wheel stud when we got down to my dad's office for lunch. Went over because it was close by, and actually had someone come over to his office to fix it. Was very thorough and checked all the other lugs on each wheel for proper torque and to make sure none of the other studs would break. Turns out one did and got both fixed the same day we went over. Very friendly and helpful.
  12. We can also take care of door dings and such. For a better idea on pricing I can put you in contact with Michael. He'll be able to help on that part. Phone #: 303-279-7333 Ask to speak to Michael and mention the Legacygt.com discount. Explain what you're looking to have done and he should be able to help.
  13. Alright guys! How's $37.50/hour sound? That's instead of $50/hour. Text me for info if you want! 3/489-1151
  14. If anyone is interested, I'm going to talk to the owner of the detail shop and see if I can work something out to get a discount for website members because I wanna hook my fellow Legacy owners!
