  1. I went to the meet. There seemed to be no shortage of Subarus there, although I made no attempt to count them all. I was driving a black 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited with a fairly serious exhaust leak. I had a blast there. Lots of new faces, and a few folks I actually recognized as well.
  2. "NVH" is an abbreviation for Noise, Vibration & Harshness. It is something of a subjective term as to how smooth and quiet the car behaves when driven.
  3. It depends on the dealership you plan on using. Normally I would say yes, use the dealer as they are trained to spot things that you might miss.. Also they will use a high temperature "lube" on the "sliders" on your calipers... Unfortunately some of these Subaru "stealerships" are total scum and will do unmentionable things to your car. Also if you do the job yourself, or find a decent independent garage to do the work for you, you can pick out a high-quality aftermarket brake pad instead of using Subaru OEM pads. Subaru OEM pads are decent for a daily driver, although some people prefere a more abrasive pad.
  4. This rectangular "Silver plate" does indeed typically have the VIN as well as numerical trim and colour codes, and sometimes date of manufacture. Often times the "Silver plate" is riveted to the firewall, although it can also be located on the drivers door jam or pretty much anywhere under the hood. The "firewall" is the body panel behind the motor that forms a barrier between the front of the passenger compartment and the the back of the engine compartment (on a front mounted engine). At any rate, in addition to the "silver panel", the VIN is typically stamped on the firewall itself. the Silver plate can easily be "doctored" by drilling out the pop-rivets, removing the original "silver plate" and then substituting either a "forged" silver plate or a silver plate removed from another donor car. Doctoring the VIN that is stamped into the firewall is difficult to perform.

  6. "BH6" is part of your VIN. The "B" means Legacy, "H"=Third Generation Legacy Wagon (2000-2004 in the US/CDN), and "6" means EJ25 (flat four boxer, 2.5 liter displacement) I have no idea where you are getting your "B12" code from.
  7. Like others I am not 100 percent sure, but it has to do with the Subaru emblem... SIX stars... I guess the Subaru Legacy is the 7th (seventh) star. The "L 7" emblem is basically an "L" intertwined with an upside down L ("7") Basically following WWII six companies were merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) the parent company of Subaru. Someone help me out here ???
  8. If you start an inspection and they fail you, the inspection station that failed you basically "owns you", until you pass. I dont think a second inspection place will touch your car. This inspection station did you a very big favour by informing you up front that you would fail before taking your money and failing you on the state's computer network. While I don't know any places in Western Massachusetts, I think most any place that isnt too up tight will pass you. However if they do fail you, you might need to 'borrow' some non-cleared headlights from another member, so you can pass (with the understanding that you will swap right back again after you pass).
