  1. So this past week I used the files in Outback_Jon Google drive and updated the head unit software, the GraceNote software and purchased ($59, ouch!) updated Nav map software from Subaru. It all went pretty well with only minor hitches that didn't take much to figure out. My advice? Be patient. Downloading the updates to flash drives or the Nav micro SD card and then uploading them to my vehicle took about 1 hour for each of the three. A huge shout-out to Outback_Jon for providing the two update files. A local Subaru dealer quoted me $140 to update just the head unit software.
  2. I have owned three Subaru Outbacks (1996, 1998, 1999) and all three required head gasket replacement. That was a $2,000 repair for each and every one. I've also owned at least 15 other vehicles of various makes and models over the years and none of them required a head gasket replacement even though they all had well over 100,000 miles on them before I bought something else. When I hear people repeating the Subaru party line that goes something like, "no head gasket problem here," I can only point and laugh.
  3. My problem sounds a lot like Jsmith is describing. I broke down and took it to the dealer and they confirmed that I would have to replace the entire bumper cover, plus paint job, at $700 to fix the problem. I'll just keep snapping it back in place when it pops out. I can do that a lot before it's worth $700 to replace.
  4. Thanks for the help. I'll give it a try when I get back into town and let you know how it goes.
  5. I have a 2016 Legacy 3.6R with about 8,000 miles on it. Twice now I have found the top corner of the passenger side of the plastic bumper cover to have popped loose and be sticking out. I push on it and it clicks back into place and stays that way for a while. This vehicle has never been in a collision or even kissed bumpers with anything. This shouldn't be popping out like that. I know it's the bumper cover fasteners, but has anyone else experienced something like this? If so, what did you do about it? It's still under warranty, but going to the dealer is a PITA. Thanks.
