  1. Google says this is "Engine Cradle Spacer"... So nope I didn't. entire Spring strut assembly. The rears have a spacer ontop of the strut so I also pressed in longer top hat bolts. Also upper control arms in the back.... Though I'm not sure if this is necessary with the outback springs in Legacy struts. They were for when I was on the Legacy HR lower springs.
  2. Stock 225/55/17 tires on stock wheels won't rub on a stock Legacy suspension as far as I know. I had legacy struts + H&R legacy lowering springs and I still barely rubbed with 225/55/17 and 225/50/18 tires. I recommend you change the fronts first... And then if you run out of time you could still drive the car and do the rears another day.. Granted, don't push it in corners. If you changed 1 corner or one whole side I would imagine the car would be very unpredictable even at reasonable speeds. FYI - I currently am running Outback springs shoved into Legacy struts. It sits a little higher than a stock legacy, but lower than an outback. Definitely an improvement in handling. Lots of tire clearance. Spec.B suspension isn't needed, but would be more performance oriented than Legacy GT. I can't comment on the comfort.
  3. The air pump was deleted. I asked over on RomRaider and supposedly ECUflash can't read the Cobb map on my car. But if that is the case then how can the car read the map? I know Cobb has their own map formats that you load onto the AccessPort to make it "user friendly" and proprietary, however the AP must load them into the car in a manner the car can read. So I'm thinking I can pull it with ECUflash. Save on lappy as Cobb-Map --> Disable codes, then load it back on the car. However to unmarry the access point I may have to relad the "Cobb-Map" I pulled back into the ECU first. Long term, I will likely do a Cryotune, but kinda hoping to do the Cobb tune for now. My Catback flange is breaking off, rear mufflers are rusting out, Need tires before next winter, and I have 1.5 ebrakes. Also my inspection expired so I'm hoping someone will let this stuff slide... Luckily Jet Ski / porch repair projects are still a few months out.
  4. My 5eat OBXT came with an M/T tune on it. Over the last couple months I've finally put some time into it. Got a 5eat base tune on it, then went Cobb Stg2 map....... which then re-enabled the codes for the secondary air pump bypass I didn't know it had... A buddy thought the engine was replaced at some point with a 12ish WRX engine, so I yanked the DP and yep... VF52. So now I need to acquire a base tune to utilize a DP + VF52 while I sort the other things out, get the car inspected, then likely get a proper tune on it. Fun fun fun frankenwagen
  5. Ya. I'm pulling the DP this weekend to verify the turbo on it. Looks stock, but pictures of the two look verify similar. Should be able to see the stamping on it and give her a wiggle test while I'm in there I did a smoke test and found the BPV didn't has a gasket on it. That took me from about 1.2 --> 6 PSI And then the smoke test was better.
  6. An old subie pal believes the engine in my OBXT was replaced with a 10-12 WRX engine through socializing. He hasn't actually look under my hood Paranoia set in....... so obviously I'm verifying VF40 vs VF52 this weekend. What other differences is there between an 2008 OBXT/LGT engine an a '10-12'WRX engine? Would it be bad to be using an OBXT tune on a WRX engine? (assuming the WRX engine has a VF40 on it) Would running an OBXT tune on a VF52 be the reason I can only hit 6 PSI of boost?
  7. 2008 OBXT.. Its been ingored most of the summer, driven here and there... At some point in time it started making this loud Woosh! sound under load.... Kinda reminds me of my buddy's DSM with extenal wastegate. Or sucking air really hard in through a hallow pipe Except mine sounds like its from under the passenger seat. Also, I (Per Cobb AP V2) I am peeking about 2psi of boost. Also, on cold startup I would see exhaust coming out under the passenger seat.... 1. The DP --> Midpipe gasket was 50% gone. MP flange is about 50% broken off and I suspect the barbs of broken pipe plus the spring bolts caused enough wiggling to chip away. I put on a a new gasket and the sound got a little lighter and may be coming out the muffler. The whole Catback is shot. Mufflers rusting out.. etc etc etc. I found a 15 WRX exhaust locally I;m gonna snag... Anyways, I digress.. A broken DP/Catback won't cause no boost, right? A clogged Cat could, but a broken DP would just be noisy and maybe extra boost from the higher flow.. 2. Per the Cobb AP "Wastegate Max". When I first step on the throttle it shoots to 70 really really quickly. Like almsot too quickly like not even under much load.. Then once under moderate to heavy load it would hang around 15-20%. (I can't seem to find if that means 20% open or 20% closed?) Anyways, I did read online that you sould be able to move the actuator arm by hand.... I tried mid and holy hell I could barely get it to pull out of the "pot" by hand and it would spring back super hard. I couldn't grip it any harder and I wasn't sure if I could hit it with PB/WD40 and use a big screw driver as leveage to try to loosen it........... OR should it be that hard to move by hand? 3. I pulled off the Intercooler and saw some funky things. The big mystery looks to be a secondary airpump delete. otherwise, all the hoses were good, in place, nothing broken of unhooked that I could see anyways. Turbo inlet looks like it was attached good. Also, I have no issues driving the car other than no boost = no power and noisy. It idles great and drives fine otherwise. Sounds like idling becomes an issue with Vacuum leaks. Am I on the right path? If the Wastegate arm movement by hand isn't a concern, next step will be to pull the DP and see if the spinnyBoi rotates freely. Then smoke test?
  8. Oh geez.... I'm scared to see what mine looks like. I have some rust on the fender lips where I trimmed the liner when she was dumped. I need to get new liners and was going to coat it with POR while they are out. as well as the hood, the roof, and any other spots. I'm be scared to see what my rockers look like. 180k Central NY miles
  9. Thanks.. Its definitely coming from the driver's side. Can I remove the actuators while the car is running or should I turn the car off each time. I'm not sure how to visually observe them working.
  10. I had a hell of a time getting the new coilpack on cyl #3. Kept thinking it was wrong because it wouldn't push in all the way. old one went back in fine. New one went in find without the rubber boot on it..... Turns out its a PITA to get it lined up with the plug inside the boot and most of the time the boot was along the side of the plug. Might have been lucky the old one went back on perfectly? Anyways, no more misfiring!!! Onto the continuous clicking noise from the dash.
  11. I have a clicking noise coming from inside my dashboard. Its not a consistent pattern. When I owned the cars years ago, I used to hear a click for each rear wiper swipe if I had it on "intermittent". This is the same clicking noise but more frequent. I've adjusted the headlights, turn signals, rear wiper was off (I guess I should switch it on to see if it changes) and the clicking kept happening. Is it likely a relay? The other day I started the car and the stereo was black/dead (HVAC worked), but I also had a Cyl #3 misfire so I was more worried about getting her home from up the road. 2008 Outback XT 5eat, paddle shifters, diode dynamics led turn signal relay
  12. Got a misfire on cyl3. Stopped after the engine made operating temp. it got blasted down upon with water last week, so maybe water/condensation in the coilpack. maybe?? It baked in the sun over the weekend and drove fine to the beach the other day.. came back on the ride home (luckily only 1.5 miles away). I did order another coilpack and should be here soon. Fingers crossed.....
  13. Moving sucks, but new house and/or new location can always be good way to reset the mental state. Like a new adventure!. I have no time either. Its been almost 90, sunny, and I've been kinda sick. I did tow my jet ski to the close by smelly lake, and did a test run. OB handled it like a champ. Jet ski did as well. Win win for me.
  14. Does a legacy and outback run the same engine maps? I'm looking to flash mine with a base map as I suspect it has a M/T map on it. The only option I found on Romraider has both cars together... Where as 05/06 they had separate maps for outback and legacy (though who knows, they could be 100% identical). Here is the link to the base maps available https://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7591
  15. I have no parking brakes. The handle was a floppy...... yea. Opened it up and the passenger side of the the splitter is pulled tight. Either the brake is stuck on or the cable is hung. This should be fun. Drivers side minimally engages too. So I'm thinking about hosing down the mechanisms with PB and praying it'll free up. Looks like one of my rear calipers isn't engaging or seized some, so I'll try to break that free while I'm at it.. Damn salt.
