  1. I appreciate everyone's reply. Upon climbing under the car it seems a though I have another issue. At some point a long the line someone welded what seems to be flex pipe from the downpipe to the exhaust. I am located in Indiana and don't have any emission issues. Is the consensus at this point just to purchase some type of 3 inch down pipe. If so are there any recommendations or does anyone have one for sale. Please let me know. Thanks again to all.
  2. Hey Forum I have a gutted up pipe on my 05 Legacy GT. Shop did this when getting a new motor. I was thinking of trying to find a gutted downpipe and run Cobb stage 2. Would this actually work and if so does anyone have one available for purchase. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
  3. That's kind of where I have just lost faith and trust. I'm not really sure what to think or believe at this point. Or what to do for that matter. I would hate to dump the car after putting as much money into it as I have.
  4. Sorry guy it's been a bit since I last posted. I work wayyy too much. I have not logged anything in terms of usage and have mostly been relying on the shop to convey information. Each of the last times it's been in they stated Subaru recommended putting a new piston in each cylinder that failed. I'm still waiting to hear back this go around on the diagnosis. They have warrantied the work each time, but it's really been nothing, but a hassle. I've probably put 5k miles on it since October of last year. Looking at the receipt and confirming what was stated. A new turbo and shortblock were installed with a year warranty. There's also a line item for NGK plugs. I could copy the parts list if there was any interest there. At this point that's all the information I have. I realize I should probably be more in tune with details, but I really expected the shop to handle most of this and return a factory running car. Appreciate any additional insight or thoughts.
  5. No modifications. The shop did state that they gutted the up pipe in the process. I have an accessport, but I have not been using it as the car has been in and out so frequently. The car did get a new short block and the heads were machined. Thanks again for the quick responses.
  6. Hi Forum I've posted a few times on here regarding my 05 Legacy GT Limited, but haven't had much of a chance to dig in or have some fun. It's been in and out of the shop over the past half year with engine issues. Cylinder 4 originally gave way last October and I took the car to a shop to have the engine replaced. At this point it is now back in the shop for a 4th time. The past 2 times different cylinders ended up having ringland failure. This go around it seems to be the same thing. Another cylinder ended up with a misfire and compression was down to 90 PSI. The shop is currently doing the work, but I'm trying to dig here on this forum to understand why this might be happening consistently. I appreciate any thoughts or response. Thanks in advance. Josh
  7. The saga still continues... I took the car to a shop they seem to think the rear main seal is leaking. Because of this I had a long conversation with the shop that did the engine and I just dropped it off their a bit earlier for diagnosis. It gets more interesting. When trying to unmarry my accessport I got an error message that the port can't communicate. After a few tries I did get the port uninstalled, but upon restarting the car now have a check engine light. Has anyone ever had this happen before? The car is at the shop as I mentioned, but I thought I'd ask. The check engine lights were transmission related, but I don't seem to be having any issues Sorry again for the lengthy post, but this situation seems to get more and more interesting. I'm hoping 1 thing goes right at some point here soon ha'. Thanks again to Max Capacity for all the help.
  8. Thanks again for the info. I just parked the car for the evening and put a piece of cardboard under it and will check in the a.m. Based on your photos I think it has to be one of those lines, but I'm really not sure. Should I not be driving the vehicle right now? Or do you think I'm fine as long as I find the leak asap. Thanks again.
  9. This is all great info. I'll be sure to take a picture of the pipe and work that was done tomorrow or the next day once I have some light. I actually just replaced the air filter with a replacement from Autozone, would you recommend something else? I did go ahead and put the stage 1 tune on this afternoon and she's running well, but the saga continues..... I'm not sure if this leak was present with the oil leak from before, but I believe I'm leaking antifreeze somewhere. Looking under the car you can see droplets on the ground almost dead center near the front of the engine. You can see fluid running down right behind the oil filter to the left of the oil pan. The only reason I'm assuming it's antifreeze is the resivoir is a little low from when I got the car back last Friday. If you all have any thoughts on this I would also be appreciative. If anyone on this forum has recommendations on a reputable shop in the West Michigan area I would also be appreciative. This whole process around the rebuild has not gone smoothly at all. Thanks again to all of you and Merry Xmas.
  10. Thanks MaxCapacity you've been most helpful throughout this process. I'll answer the questions below. It's at 05 GT Limited. The dealer didn't check for shaft play that I know of, but I did forget to mention during the rebuild the shop put a brand new turbo from Subaru on it. I took your advice and took it to a shop. They did fix the leak, however I was under the assumption they were going to fix the pipe itself. Instead they cut off the flanges and put in flexpipe. I didn't realize this until I got it home and got underneath it. . Although I'm not happy about the fix do you think it's fine to drive for now? Seems as though if I want to put a new downpipe on in the future this will make it much more difficult. I do also have a Cobb AP, but it's not on the car right now. If I were to put it back on at what stage do you think? Thanks again for all the assistance I know these have been long winded threads.
  11. Thanks again to all for the responses. This forum really sheds some nice light on these vehicles. Got the car back today. The dealer replaced the banjo crush washers, PCV hose and oil drain hose from the turbo. Based on this amount of maintenance do any of you feel I may have damaged the engine or turbo by driving like this? The dealership doesn't seem to think so. Also, changing gears there is definitely an exhaust leak at this point. The tech stated he found the donut flange on the downpipe to be cracked and said the entire downpipe needs to be replaced. Do any of you have any thoughts on this? Sorry for the lengthy post, I just really appreciate your all's opinion. Thanks in advance,
  12. Thanks to all for the responses. It definitely smells like oil burning. I also found some oil droplets underneath the car this afternoon. Long story short I had the engine done quite a ways away so I'm going to run by the dealership tomorrow to at least get it checked out. Do you all think I could have caused any material damage to the new engine and turbo setup? Thanks again for all the feedback.
  13. Hi Team It's been a bit since I've posted. I ended up running into some issues and had the 2.5 rebuilt. I got the car back this past Friday and put some good miles on her. Was running great until yesterday on the highway. I noticed a burning smell and pulled off to the side of the highway. White smoke was coming from the hood scoop. I let it cool down and checked fluids, all were full. I limped the car home and upon stopping and popping the hood noticed a small amount of smoke coming from the back of the engine passenger side, seemed under the turbo. I'm going to bring the car back to the shop that did the job tomorrow, but am wondering opinions from the experts here. Please let me know. I appreciate any thoughts.
  14. All I do appreciate all the responses in regards to this subject. All of them have been very helpful. I think at this point I'm sold on the Cobb downpipe and a stage 2 tune for now as I'm going to be using the factory exhaust. I am however, looking for opinions on up pipe. The car is an 05. It looks like there's a version of the up pipe from Cobb and Invidia, however on the website when you put the make of your vehicle no products are listed. Does anyone have any solid advice on what to use here? I just want to make sure I get this right. Any additional opinions are helpful. I'm located in Michigan so if there's any tuner recommendations I'll definitely take them as well. As always, the help is appreciated.
  15. Hi Team I'm currently running a stage 1 AP tune with the stock intake. I was doing some research, which sparked my interest. My questions are as follows. Would it make sense to get the Cobb Intake and run that variation of the stage 1 tune? If I wanted to go stage 2 would it be safe with an Invidia Uppipe and Cobb Downpipe? I really don't want the car to be loud so I'm not necessarily looking to do a full blown exhaust, but just looking at what minor things I can do to add HP safely. If none of these versions are safe I'd rather keep the car factory. I appreciate any opinions on this matter. Thanks, Josh
