  1. Yup, bracing for another bout of unbalance on the wheels and slipnslide this weekend in the snow belt that is Western NY.
  2. ^^^^That is one clean car. Best of luck with the sale and life in general.
  3. Exactly what I did at 74k. Friggin money pit! Lots of people comment on how the car looks and most of the time I enjoy driving it so....I guess I'll keep it going for now.
  4. Rear bearings yesterday. I'm bad with pics. Drivers side was cake. Out and back in way less than an hour. Passenger side was it's own story lol. From the back of the hub, top left bolt head rounded. Drilled it out from outside and got a 12pt socket on it to back it out. The axle splines chose not to play nice either so out came the air hammer. Lots of persuasion, some heat, another beer and it finally came out. Shout out to my friend Kroil for the lube job. Cleaned, lubed and adjusted the parking brake bits. Works great. The car rolls nicely again. I should really do something about that turbo heat shield stuff. That or a blanket. I keep saying I need to. Winter wheels soon.
  5. Pulled, cleaned and rebooted both front axles. Really not a bad job that i was dreading. Have to verify diff oil in the morning as I lost a smidgen when the axles came out. Installed replacement passenger front caliper while I was in there (Powerstop warranty work....yay). Driver side was 2 weeks ago. Next up....rear hubs. Tips from the pros or at least those that have fought that fight?
  6. https://freessm.software.informer.com/ I downloaded it onto my laptop. I've never used it for anything other than the TCU reset but you can monitor and make small changes to ECM and TCM with the knowledge to do so and it's free. You must have the correct cable for USB/OBD linking and they can be had fairly cheap on your favorite web shopping hub. I found it researching the bad 2-3 shift I was getting shortly after buying my 2009 with 53k on it a few years back. The dealer wanted nothing to do with resetting the TCU, not without a 1 hour diagnostic fee and of course giving you a quote to replace the valve body for over $3k. That is when we as enthusiasts get crafty lol. It may not work for other years but I am stoked I found the workaround until I get to swapping the $40 sensor.
  7. Can't you download FreeSSM and clear memory on the TCU via a VagCom cable? I reset mine now and again and go through a very simple relearn process(drive it normally...) due to what I believe to be a failing Turbine Speed Sensor 2 that I don't want to change. Car drives fine for a while and begins to get a lazy 2-3 slide/bang shift. Reset sets her straight and takes less than a minute.
  8. New caliper installed to replace the sticker. Oil change with some T6 (I finally found some at the local Home Depot), Mazda filter.....found drivers front axle boot ripped and slinging the goodness all about so that's next. What is the general consensus on rebooting axles? OEM kits? Should probably do it this week. FML.
  9. Yeah, it's a crapshoot with anything aftermarket and/or reman. Just love replacing recently replaced parts. It's fun.
  10. Should be receiving replacement front calipers for my recently installed Powerstop kit from Rockauto today. Left front caliper was locked up and getting a little hot (actually really hot!). Pads and rotor appear to be ok. They do not want the old parts back which is odd to me so I will have a set of calipers for cheap if anyone needs them. Left one needs some attention in the piston area.
  11. I bought a set from traildogck last year via fleaBay. Took a bit to get them but they are nice and do the job. Cke_ssp is his handle there.
  12. I installed an entry door in the garage last week. I was dreading having to cut the footer but it wasn't bad. Came out pretty nice. Need paint to match the other doors.
  13. Looking good Max. You are running out of projects. That never happens lol.
  14. YNANSB....Google and call around for best price. Send the heads out for a rebuild, ARP studs, Killer B oil pickup or other proven aftermarket, new oil cooler, verify turbo condition or rebuild at this time. New timing kit, water pump and T stat. Misc hoses, belts, etc. Just break out the wallet. Depending on your time, skill level and work space you can save a bunch of money doing things yourself. I bought my own parts and had a shop do the work. I'm very happy with the results. Good luck.
