I was super excited to stumble upon this site! Sweet sweet news for me that a Legacy-specific site exists! My only car is my '98 Legacy GT sedan. I guess there's really not much of anything that hasn't been played with! ...except the stereo, but there's less of that than stock instead of more :) Jeremy Oh, the AVS ES-100's are available all over the states from any tire place that carries Yokohama including TireRack and America's Tire Co. I don't know about New Zeland though... I'm sure you can get much better tires there than the ES-100's though!

Oh hahaha. My fault. They're decent. They're quiet and last a really, really long time, but they're not as grippy as the Potenza RE-730's I ran before them. I didn't have enough $$$ to get new Potenza's so I got these, which are just amazingly inexpensive. Dry grip is close, almost up-to-par, but the wet grip leaves something to be desired. They're a little less predictable when you start to slide, but it doesn't catch you off guard. Response is a touch slower because the sidewalls are softer. They're not as good, but they're close. They're definitely going to last longer and were way, way less expensive. The nice thing is that the section width is really narrow for the tread width, so I was able to fit 225's on my lowered car and there's no way I could have done that with any other tire. I've got like 1.6" more tread width than with the Potenza's. For the price, they're a great tire and I would recommend them over anything else in the approximate price range, or even over something much more expensive if you're not tracking your car and don't [b]really[/b] need every possible bit of performance out of it.

Nice car. I am considering running Kumho ECSTA MX in the same 225/50R-16 sizing on the snowflakes. Whats your take on the difference from 205/55R-16 to the wider 225/50s? Noticeable enough, do you AutoX, that is the primary function of the upgraded tires. I'll only have this car for another year, so just burning up those aren't a real big deal.

Since I changed models and brands of tire I don't think I could really say anything on running 225 vs 205. I do AutoX but actually haven't since putting the ES-100's on (I think I put them on in late May). I'm sure some of the worse performance in wet conditions is due to the extra width, and I would bet that these grip better in the dry vs. the same tire in 205 but I obviously haven't tested that... They do look really good on the car though! :) Nice and beefy. If you can fit the 225's I say go for it! ...I've heard a lot of good things about those MX's also... although if you're only going to have them for one year and plan on burning 'em up, you may want to consider the Falken Azenis also. Those things are STIFF and sticky, great for AutoX... and cheap.

I want something that will be a good all-around tire and the MX's appear to be better able to handle rain as I'm sure I'll run into some. It won't be an AutoX-only tire, it will be my summers too. I saw 225/50s on a WRX when I was out in Vegas a few weeks back, looked nice.

They are exactly that. Unfortunately they don't come in the stock size at this point which deters from using them as an AutoX tire, but I was looking for something with a little better rain traction anyhow, like perhaps a KDW2 or something similar, the MX is still very real.
