I'll take a wagon please! In Silver Metallic, Atlantic Blue Pearl or maybe White. If the McIntosh is an option through that in as well! :D   I may even have to change the wheels out to those cool 5 spokes that they offer as an option on the WRX right now. If they offer them. They'd look sweet on a silver wagon. -Ian

It will depend on pricing I imagine. If the LTD price increase is reasonable, I may have to just suck up the extra weight. Somehow, I find it easier to have LTD on the wagon and base on the sedan. It's probably that way cool 2 pane moonroof and hopes for a reclining rear seat.

Sounds like we WILL get an "LCD center upper stack display" as an option for the U.S. spec GT.....I wonder what data is provided (turbo boost and...???) on the display...looked like three items displayed in the LCD from several interior pictures shown in the interior photo threads.

As an aside the Oz spec fuel consumption units is km/litre, wheras the Australian standard unit is l/100km - even stranger when it shows LHD cars in metric countries are calibrated in l/100km ????

The trip computer appears to be on the lower edge of the LCD hole underneath the bin cover. Check out the interior pics on need-desire.com and zoom in. It is not the LCD screen that you are thinking that is for navigation and normally shows three digital gauges in most pictures. However, STi has a gauge pod that fits in the bin above the trip computer and holds three gauges.

GT wagon. It will also be nice to be liberated from all the worrying about STi versions, etc, as Subaru won't be doing any of that stuff to wagons. There might be a 6-speed, but I'm not convinced that more shifting is better, despite what its proponents suggest. Kevin

^It's not about the number of shifts. It's about getting a top cruising gear to help with fuel economy without sacrificing the lower gears for acceleration. Subaru definitely needs help in that area, and having shorter gearing than the WRX 5th gear isn't going to help. :( But for the power minded, the 5 should handle more than the 6. But for most people who won't touch the car for more power, a 6MT would work fine.

But that's presuming that Subaru is thinking the same way that the 6-speed proponents are, which is doubtful. The STi with its six-speed takes two shifts to get to 60 mph, my WRX wagon takes one. I vastly prefer the latter. The fuel economy question is something that people also suggest would be enhanced by a 6-speed, but if the first four gears are chosen for acceleration, when you are accelerating hard, those injectors are spraying like angry skunks, man. :D I doubt that it would help fuel mileage at all. There is, however, no question that from a marketing perspective in this "more is better" market, Subaru would be able to say "Look, we have a 6-speed, just like those other guys." We're more likely to get it for that reason, than anything else. Kevin

It would help with CAFE ratings for the highway figures, and that is really where Subaru is in dire need of help with. I can't link pictures from where mine are, but I have done gearing comparisons along with other features. Compared to the Joneses, the Legacy has a short overall top gear. I still hold that the G35 is the closest competitor (TSX and Mazda6 are just too slow), and Spec B gears plus an appropriately spaced 6th would have matched the G perfectly. Then again, as you said, it can be nice to cruise so close to spool up.

Mazda6 are just too slow
my brother has mazda 6 right now and it's not "that" slow
If that's how you feel, get ready to be blown away. You might want to make sure that the 2.5i isn't more your cup o tea. :P If it's as fast as I'm told it should be, you can really scare passengers by dropping the hammer. It won't compare to the G35, 330 performance pack, or any of those. You'll be talking faster than an E36 M3 but maybe slower than an E46.

Six speeds are good. Speaking from experience, the Corvette ZR-1 (1991) easily achieves 25 mpg cruising at 80mph with the A/C on in 110*F weather. At that speed, the 32-valve motor is loping along at 1800rpm. *yawn* If you can get the Legacy's turbo to wind down out of the power band, that would certainly help. We'll have to see the 65mph 5th gear RPM stats.
