ha-evolution
I'm currently driving a 97 Honda Prelude. My former vehicle was an STi but it met an untimely demise. As much as I liked the STi it's time to move on to something else. Hopefully the Legacy GT Premium will fit that bill. PPower
Do you care to say what you were doing (that you obviously should not have been) when you picked a fight with that tree? Did you buy the car back to sell it out in parts? You could get a Legacy 2.5i and toss in the STi drivetrain assuming the tranny bell housing fits. ha-evolution
I was driving along a city street and took a corner a bit too fast and the cold summer tires just couldn't handle the semi-slick pavement and I lost it, sliding sideways up over a curb and into a small tree. Probably wasn't going more than 35-40 which, unfortunately, was too fast for conditions. If that tree hadn't been there I would have got away with only having scuffed a rim or two. The car was still drivable. For whatever reason I could not buy it back from the InsCo. I tried, believe me I did. There was major interest in the parts considering the engine, drivetrain, and other bits and pieces were not damaged at all. I'm not sure why they were so obstinate about the whole thing. SUBE555
Probably because they could make more off the parts than they paid you or figured they could, unfortuantely. Nice to see you over here. I was with Dave in his evil twin STi on Thursday at the meet in EC. ;) Finally see the pics that Kristi and Dave told me about. Yikes!
ha-evolution
Hey 555! Did you see the whole album which covers delivery to demise? http://public.fotki.com/rms/sti_pics/ -td
SUBE555
Hey its the twins of yours and Dave's. Not any more. :( You'll just have to make that Legacy GT really badass!
ha-evolution
Maybe its a good idea if it isn't too badass - if you know what I mean. And tell Dave not to copy me this time.
PPower
I've got a feeling that stock power is going to be more than sufficient, but hopefully power mods can be put off for a year. That might be hard because the "more power" bug bites hard, especially if you do just up, down, and mid pipes along with a Cobb reflash. That's awefully hard to resist, but less power is better than a totalled car.
SUBE555
Stock power being enough. Hi, my name is Seth, and I'm a Subaholic. *other Subaholic Anonymous group members say hi Seth*

It's not like it can bend the laws of physics, but many people are expressing an attitude like they expect it to save their butt in every situation. As he said, the summer tires were slick in the cold weather. That's why they are summer tires. A turn at a city street at 35-40mph IS going pretty fast. I'm sure a cop wouldn't have been pleased. Not to say that I haven't done the same myself, but it IS pretty fast. Just imagine if understeer was eliminated in the car, and the tail came around more easily. Ouch. Dr. Zevil
I agree completely ^^ More than once have I been screwing around in the WRX in snow and such, feeling confident and then having all that confidence leave. Getting sideways and driving "rally style" can get out of hand real quickly. If you get your tires past friction point with ANY drivetrain you are in for some serious issues. Other than that I would say the STi is safe as well.
SUBE555
Both good comments Zevil and PPower. :) Unfortunately the physics wrecked havoc on this beautiful specimen. But as Troy told us at the meet, don't get attached to our family members, I mean, um cars. Theres always another one waiting at the dealership.
