Description:

Part# SOA431010 SPT intake comes well packed. All parts for installation are included. Installation took 30-45min. No surprises, instruction are easy to understand. Don't forget to replace the MAFscrews with the new black ones provided. Performance gain estimated at 8-10 whp and 5-10lbs of Torque. The true gains are in appearance and sound. Fit and finish are excellent! You can expect to hear a moderate level of suction on acceleration. Turbo spool is pronounced. Blow Off is audible when releasing the throttle. Scores a 10 on the Grin scale.

Pros:

Great looks and sound. Quality made product. More air + more fuel = more hp. Easy to insall and fits great.

|
Cons:
|
None - Bad press from Cobb and bad reputation.

I have had this intake from stock to Stage 1 and now to Stage 2. It has always worked flawlessly. You can hear the turbo and the BOV very well with this mod. There is a high pitched whistle that people either love or hate. If you like the noises associated with a high performance vehicle, you will be pleased with this CAI. If you do not like your car to be loud - STAY AWAY! Also, there is no oil in the air filter medium to muck up the MAF sensor.

Performance gain? Acceleration weird at first

Great product! Installation very easy and everything fits perfectly. Didn't notice much performance with it and contrary to what I thought/knew of intakes, I would recommend a tune with it, although it's not nessecary. If you don't you will notice the car shutter for a while until the ecu relearns you driving with the intake. Still noticed it after a while, but was much less...nothing to write home about. Tune solved all of that and did away with most of the hiss sound you get...I got more of that aggressive sound you'd expect from an intake after the tune....although the hiss sound is cool....
Final thought....Contrary to what most people do, the intake doesn't need to be one of those first "mods" a person does with this car....there are better things to spend your money on at first...but I think it's good to have later down the road if you are expecting performance. Unless you want the sound, I would almost wait until you've done more to your car before you would want to put this on.
Not sure what the gains from this product alone are as I didn't have the car dynoed until after I got it tuned, so I don't know what the before and directly after numbers are. The SPT parts book says you can get up to 30hp/tq from this, but I can only imagine you get it only after a tune. I think I would notice a 30hp/tq increase and I didn't see/feel it.
All in all though, I like the product despite what I've just said. Just wanting to be honest for other people who are considering this product.
Don't quote me here, but from what I gather/read this is the same with any aftermarket intake (if it is one of your first "mods"). Just my opinion though.

Great intake and Blow Off Noise
|
|
Cons:

Possible Lean Condition. No performance gains without tunning.
|

Great noise is developped from the filter without melting your cat by installing a BOV and using the stock BPV. Doesn't make the car go faster but it sure sounds faster.

Spooling Turbo Noise and Recirculating Valve Noise

Performance without tune?

I bought this used, with heat shield
Had some problems installing the heat shield, but eventually figured it out, instructions where ok, not great. I was disappointed when I started the car and didnt hear anything, not like my last car that you can hear the intake, but when you start moving it sounds great. Love the sound of the spooling turbo and recirculating valve. This just makes the right noises I was looking for
After my first run with the intake I immediately opened the hood and put my hand in the heat shield where cone is and outside of heat shield, you can feel a difference in temp, I recommend the heat shield with this for 'max performance', lol

So far I have only had the intake for a few days, but it sounds great. As far as performance, not so sure it has made any difference. Feels a little faster but like everyone else has said before me; it could just be the sound that affects my judgment.

Quality materials, great fitment, awesome sounds, and OEM!
|

Cons:

Heatshield is tricky, no noticable gains right away (see below).
|

I bought everything new from work and installed it with the heatshield and noted the quality of the materials and how well everything is made and finished.
After installation the infamous spooling and BPV sound made everything worth the wait. If is very noisy and turns other people off but if you're into it... you're into it.
Another note....Installation should be performed with the battery disconnected to allow the ECU to reset itself. Your ECU will have to readjust itself after installation of this product to compensate for the extra air coming in.
"
WATCH YOUR AIR-FUEL MIX
If you install the SPT High Flow Air Intake system and want to measure the results, be sure the air-fuel mix resets to original specifications prior to testing. Especially if the SPT setup is dynoed first, neglecting to reset the control unit will result in an air-fuel mixture that’s too lean. That will skew dynamometer results for the base line too high, and the comparison will not be apples-to-apples. Disconnect the battery so the control unit resets to ensure proper calculations from the air mass sensor input." http://www.driveperformance.subaru.c...1/upgrades.asp
It WILL take a few days for your ECU to readjust.
