Description:

Carbotech Bobcat (1521) is the much anticipated replacement for our heralded Super Street F. Like our Panther line of compounds, Bobcat is a ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non reactive dust. Bobcat offers outstanding performance when cold, low dusting, and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Friction coefficient is ~.45 over its operating range of ambient temp to 900F. Bobcat is suitable for all street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo national championships. Ideal pad for all SCCA Street Touring classes using street tires. Bobcat is not recommended for on-track driving schools or club racing.

Pros:
|
better bite than stong, minimal dusting
|
|
Cons:
|
not for track events

Wanted a more aggressive brake pad that would still work when cold. Bobcats are priced right, and provide better grip that stock pads.
A little noise every so often, evening out deposits on rotor makes it go away.

I've just got through my first set of Bobcats after about 22k miles. Well, the fronts are done, the rears are still good for a bit more. Overall, this is not a bad pad. I had some initial concerns about the quality, since one of the front pads had excess pad material on it, and the red paint was already flaking off all of the. I installed and bedded using stop-techs technique. I did reuse the stock shims, and applied new grease on them. I never had an issue with noise.
These are a big step up from stock, but you pay for it in pad life. They have been easy on my stock rotors though, with no gouging or scouring. Initial bite is up some, but not incredibly so. Apply more pressure though, and you will have a very linear amount of stopping power. I also upgraded to stainless lines and Motul RBF-600, so that also has greatly increased pedal feel. I get the feeling this pad might be overkill if you drive mostly street. Where it really started to shine was in the hills once they got up to temp. Then they would really start to bite and stop very quickly. Around town they just don't seem to get hot enough for optimum braking. This is also an issue when it is cold or raining. I had to get in the habit of applying the brakes every now and then to heat them up and clear off moisture. Otherwise, panic braking had another element of panic to it...
These are fine pads, and I think I might buy another set. I am thinking of "downgrading" though, to a pad that might be better suited to daily driving, and playing in the hills. I just don't think I need the heat capacity of the bobcats. I'd rather have something that was a bit better in the city, but could still take a good romp in the hills. The Hawk HPS seem to be the only other pads in the price/performance range, so I may try them for the heck of it.
